So you are saying that any Dog with one Parent a Purbred Staffordshire bull terrier will could never look like a purebred staffie to the untrained eye. What an interesting biological concept.

A rather bizarre thing to translate three ROFL smilies into!

You're being silly using the word fearsome implies the dogs are well fearsome which to most implies that they should be feared. The word fearsome actually means to cause fear so that is what is being implied. If an animal is causing fear to people it implies they are dangerous

As SPP poster said a lot of crosses look like Purebred staffies to the majority of the general public. Yes it doesn't state these dogs are dangerous but the opening of the article implies that Staffie like dogs should be feared. So as the campagn they are trying to do is about Dangerous dogs they are implieing that dogs that look like Staffies are dangerous.

I've already addressed this! :rotfl: Anyone who comes to that conclusion has a poor grasp of the English language or the average intelligence of a Sun newspaper reader.
"You have misread the article: it doesn't state or even intimate all staffies are fearsome. It actually claims the vast majority of abandoned dogs in that hospital are fearsome staffie crosses. You have also misunderstood the word fearsome and are erroneously equating it with the word dangerous. Fear is an emotion and not always a rational one. If the RSPCA thought these dogs were dangerous they would be PTS not up for rehoming."

The campaign is not only about dangerous dogs and is in tandem with the RSPCA whose remit is animal welfare, try actually reading the article. The title is "Chipping will help reduce this pitiful sight. The Sun visits hospital for abandoned pets ... The move would make it far harder to abandon a pet, as the owner could be traced and made to face the consequences ... Prevent cruelty and attacks by giving police and dog wardens power to issue warnings when people aren’t doing the right things for and with their dog."

Won't be signing - even without the ins and outs of the article - the Sun's done enough devil dog breed scaremongering in the past and the last thing we need is more witchunts.

Different article sweetpea, your original post clearly referred to THIS article on THIS campaign. Hence you were advised to re-read the article because it does not say what you inferred.
"its a worrying campaign if The Sun are going along the lines of the majority of dogs being staffies .... I am disgusted that The Sun is condeming a particular breed so unless they stop this, I won't be signing it."

But my dearest Sun reader....different article, same campaign - you can even get to the article on the same page (which, incidentally, is where I read it from). If you read back to my original post - it was their campaign I was slating NOT the article - you have even quoted my post above.

I suggest before you quote someone and then tell them that they haven't read an article, you carefully read what it is that they have written....and then take a few moments to digest what it means. Campaign does not mean article.

I was clearly referring to The Sun's campaign and not one article. If you don't understand the difference maybe you need to re-read the dictionary that you are so intent on quoting.:)
  • Well if you own any dog then you are responsible for its actions because obviously you are that dogs owner, there no problem we me if they now start making dog owners accountable for there dogs actions that's fine by me but its fine by me if they don't change it because the dog owner is always responsible for there dogs actions good or bad but that shouldn't be a problem for any dog owners its fair enough really. I'm not sure that will stop dogs attacking people or make a difference because these so called devil dogs always be attacking people because that's what all these "DEVIL DOG" do is attack people do Staffordshire Bulls attack more people than other dogs ? Alsatian Boxers German Sheppard Bull Mastiffs Rottweiler Great Danes Akitas Siberian Huskies or mixed with your usual nice family dog that is crossed with any of them breeds. But the fact is all dog can bite what ever there breed even good dogs can turn into a devil dog for no reason,,, its mainly how the owner has brought it up and taught the dog to show aggression it will and to bite the dog will bite like a police is trained to,,, i was walking home from high school one day I cut across some football pitches I saw this man walking his dog then I lost sight of them I got near the bushes and a big German Sheppard come running at me no braking no growling just running my way I thought to myself fuk he's a big one next thing its sunk his teeth in deep into my arm there was nothing I could do to stop it but then it let go then it bite me on the leg then its owner came from the behind the bushes it was a police dog, you do see policeman walking there dogs on them football pitches sometimes letting there dogs out rather locked in there vans all day but its not privet it was a public place I had to have stitches in my arm my leg was not as bad my new coat was ripped up but nothing happened to that police man or his dog I saw them loads of times after it got me was the police unable to bring charges on its owners ? We know that was not its first time it shown aggression that's a Devil Dog,,, you can't expect dogs to be 100% Safe you can't really expect People to be 100% safe or to never attack for no reason at all, I'm all for safer dogs 100% The Sun Campaign so if you have your dog in your own garden its place of home its a safe place for your dog to be in its own garden but as shocking it was for that young baby boy and his parents it is everyone's worst nightmare having baby being attacked from some neighbour who has Devil Dog of any kind this was a Staffordshire Bull who savaged a 2 year old boy,, The parents shouldn't be letting 2 year olds out of there sight even if they have neighbours without dogs but especially if they have dangerous dogs you still shouldn't never let a 2 year old out of your sight all if this baby can get himself in to a neighbours garden on his own or with his brother in that time he could of been knocked down and killed or kidnapped as the parents don't know what he's doing this little boy does not know there a dangerous dog in this garden he's just entered but his parents would of known there was a dog in the garden where there baby has wondered off into with his 5 year brother, where was this boys MUM and DAD why was they not watching there sons anything could of happened to there boys ? the dog was in its owners own garden not running wailed on the streets yes the dog has to be blamed you can't defend a dog that does that it should be put down, How can you bring charges to that dogs owners the dog was in its owners own garden how can you charge the dogs owner ? the poor baby never knew he was not allowed in there and a dog is just an animal as far as its owner new the dog was in a safe place in his own garden,,, So what about the boys parents are they responsible for there boy shouldn't they be watching there 2 year old boy at all times and not lettings him wonder off when they know about the dangerous dogs in a neighbours gardens but its in a garden so its ok to let my kids wonder off then,,, I'm all for Safer Dogs but if THE SUN CAMPAIGE can't see why the boy was a attacked in the first place was the parents fault in the first place for doing something most parents would never do let there a 2 year old wonder off out from there own garden not into next door but a neighbours garden could of ran on to a road and killed what was they doing ??? In steed THE SUN BLAMED the dog witch was in its own garden and would want the blame on its owner,,, I would back safer dogs but not THE SUN campaign

Getting back to the microchipping ...
Even if a pet is microchipped, and is abandoned, the owner can still avoid any repercussions by claiming they sold the dog, and the new owner hasn't changed the chip details.
