Did you bother to read the story or have you just jumped onto the bandwagon?
Yes - I did bother to read the story. You clearly do not understand WHY the majority are staffies.
If you look at the majority of the owners of staffies nowadays you will see my point. Somewhere along the line they were glamorised as a dog that gives off a "hard" image. Therefore the majority of owners (note not all - there are many responsible owners of staffies also of course) fit a....lets say...certain stereotype. You don't see many poodles owned by mindless chavs do you? Hence the stats about the majority being terrier types are rather flawed. It should read "and the vast majority of Staffordshire bull terrier crosses unfortunately are owned by mindless chavs who put no effort into training their dog to be a sociable pet".
Mindless chavs are the owners who need the training - and these mindless chavs have a tendancy to own terrier/GSD type dogs. Hence my comment about owners being the dangerous ones and not the dogs!
Understand now?! I stand by my comment.0 -
"– and the vast majority are fearsome Staffordshire bull terrier crosses."
Well that is enough for me to know that this is a very stupid, ill thought out campaign. Each decade the media dub a different breed a 'devil dog' first German Shepherds, then Dobermans, Rottweilers and now it is the turn of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier who, through no fault of it's own has become the chosen dog of the chav brigade who parade them around like badges of honour and encourage them to fight. These dogs are actually extremely friendly and if treated right are no more likely to bite you than any other dog. Shameful campaign.
Maybe read the article?
But hospital director David Grant said: “The main problem we face here is abandonment. We are constantly battling against it.” And he is fed up of Staffies getting a bad reputation. He said: “Staffordshire bull terriers are nice dogs.
“The standard size for the breed is between 13 and 17kg. What we see in here are dogs referred to as Staffies but weighing about 25kg. They cannot be Staffies — they are too big.
“They are being crossed with pit bull terriers by backstreet breeders, and those dogs are illegal. The big dogs that are out of control pick on other people’s dogs in the street and parks. We get one or two dog victims of this daily — last year around 270 dogs were attacked.”Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

You have misread the article: it doesn't state or even intimate all staffies are fearsome. It actually claims the vast majority of abandoned dogs in that hospital are fearsome staffie crosses. You have also misunderstood the word fearsome and are erroneously equating it with the word dangerous. Fear is an emotion and not always a rational one. If the RSPCA thought these dogs were dangerous they would be PTS not up for rehoming.

You don't need to quote dictionary meanings to me
:D What I am saying is that regardless of the breed of dog - crosses or purebreeds - it is the OWNER that is at fault. Any dog that is properly trained and socialised from an early age WILL not attack.
If it is in the hands of a "chav" then it is a killing machine - and this could be ANY breed. Irresponsible owners are the cause of problems.0 -

A mandatory £5k fine for letting your dog crap in public and not picking it up would be nice. Jail time for those who can't afford. Far too many lazy dog-owning filth ruining the pavements and parks.0

I vote for a fine and community service ... cleaning public toilets and the sewers. My aunt told me about somewhere she goes to look at wild flowers, apparently there is no bin so people leave bags of dog poo on a wall. :eek:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Fire Fox, the first line of the campaign is the Sun's editors own words that staffies are 'fearsome'. What the hospital carer says is irrelevant tbh as people are more inclined to listen to the mini headline.0
