PCW staff do not get commission.

Sorry, I was under the impression they were taking their sales techniques into consideration. I guess I shouldn't make assumptions.

Theres nothing wrong with going into PCWorld as long as you know exactly what you want to get ie. specific router, printer cartridges etc.

For sheer convenience they can't be beaten.

I suppose so, I normally avoid the stores and buy online but I guess if you just want some cheap DVD-R's then they have their place.

The whole thing with Vista and PC's in general was the last straw, I have switched to an Apple Mac now anyway so I won't have to go near one of them places again. I used to repair PC's for small businesses and home users and the stories I would get told about their support centers were pure comedy, all about the green!

Anyway, I would recommend to anyone switching to an Apple Mac. It really is trouble free computing.

Apple Macs also have their place and aren't suitable for every situation. It wouldn't be an adequate replacement for me on two fronts, for personal; I like gaming, PC beats Mac hands down for that. For work I'm an engineer (and researcher) and a Mac would be completely impractical as most of the software I need isn't available on the mac and in many cases there aren't even any equivalents.

Sure, that makes sense but in context to this thread I don't think that anything other than lengthy word docs will be created on this laptop and some web browsing, could be wrong.

I am a graphic designer and web site designer by trade so the Mac was made for people like me.

    Horses for courses.

Completely agree, in fact it would seem a little odd to me for a graphic designer not to use a mac. Was only disputing the "recommending to anyone" which is probably just me being pedantic. As anyone in my position would be mad to get a mac for anything engineering or research related.

Sure, I also just wanted to put a seed of doubt into n1kk1's head about what to purchase.

Just throwing yet another option into the mix as I thought it would be fun. :rotfl:

Nothing like opening up the options when someone's trying to make a definite decision :rotfl:
