Why not just download OpenOffice? It's free and I'm using it on Vista without any problems.

Who told you Office 2000 wasn't compatible? A quick google suggest it will run fine.

Even Microsoft say it should run.

It was the man who was trying to sell me the laptop in PC world he said that only the 2007 office works on the new windows.

i have heard about openoffice but did not know if it was compatable or not. Also i am a bit apprehensive about downloading things from the internet on to a new laptop in case it gets a virus as anyone had problems with openoffice?

Open Office is about as legitimate as you can get in terms of downloading of the internet. As for the PC World guy, if you see him again give him the evil eye. He's dead wrong and is just trying to get more money from you with a blatant lie. Im sure there are good sales people at PC World but I personally wouldn't take the slightest notice at anything any pc world employee said in terms of advice.

It annoys me so much when Sale reps blatantly lie to sell stuff. Pc world reps talk alot of garbage and most dont even know what they are talking about in my experince

You know I'd have so much more respect for them if they gave a simple "I don't know". I learn stuff all the time, I don't know everything and I wouldn't expect anyone else to but when they try and bluff their way through it with either rubbish or lies then that really gets to me. The independant pc places tend to be fine and quite a few are really super genius experts but the larger chain high street stores are where I always hear the wrong advice and things that quite frankly don't even make sense.

    Your spot on.

I once was told utter garbage at Pc world when a asked a rep a question cause he must of thought I was clueless

When I asked him which DVD-R were more realible for recording, he told them all were the same as they woudlnt be selling them.

well since they are lying about that are they also telling me this is a good laptop when it isn't?

    Packard bell BU45-O-002
Intel Core Duo T2250 Processor 1.73GH
    533MHz FSB
    2MB Cache
    1024MB RAM
    100GB Hard Drive
    Dual Layer DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
    12" TFT Display
    Microsoft Windows Vista Premium
    128MB Intel GMA950 Shared Graphics

It's an ultra compact priced £620
  • It seems good enough but it's a Packard Bell. I used to work for Dixons Stores Group and these laptops aren't always as reliable as some of the other brands that they sell. If I were in the market I would look for a similarly priced Medion laptop or perhaps a Compaq/HP. The Packard Bell computer owners always seemed to be ringing up more than owners of other brands but that might be due to them being pushed more as they are PC World's own brand therefore selling in higher numbers.

Open Office is 100% legit and used by many thousands around the world. Its safer to download it off the parent site rather than one of these third party download archives found by Google.

As for the man in PC World. He's jsut trying to boost his commission to get you to spend a couple hundred pounds on Office 2007. If you feel unsure about anything then ask here before you buy, we don't get paid any commission ;) and so are unbiased in that sense.
