Useful anti-theft device though cos if you start in neutral then try to put it in gear you break the propshaft and go nowhere
a centrifugal clutch? - what car is this?0 -
a centrifugal clutch? - what car is this?
Works a bit like a moped but has 4 wheels, a boot and seats 4 in (a 60's idea of) comfort0 -
Pretty useless car if the propshaft breaks when you drop it into gear from neutral.
One question. How do the MOT testers test electronic parking brakes?. With proper cable handbrakes they check for handbrake travel. So what do they look for with a system that is a simple push-button ?.
They put it on the rollers, but the travel check doesn't apply.

Also, something like a handbrake failure or, say, a burst brake flexi may well have "needed to be done anyway" but being failed for it because it was badly deteriorated (even if it still worked) may, as in this case, have prevented an accident and extra expense. Or worse.
If that happens, it's perfectly reasonable to question why the place who took your money to professionally inspect it didn't spot the frayed cable or bulging brake flexi!0 -
It's all part of discouraging dodgy MOTs. Reduces the incentive for sellers getting someone to slap a dodgy ticket on it if the new buyer is able to drop the tester in it with VOSA.
Whether or not it's useful depends to a great extent on whether you view the MOT scheme as part of keeping vehicles safe or as "just something to keep you legal".
Personally, if I suspected I'd bought something with a dodgy ticket I'd be quite happy to drop the tester in it even though I'd then fix the problems myself because someone who takes money to hand out MOTs without doing the job is ripping someone somewhere off, and using something that you need by law to do it.0 -

huh - learn something every day - although now you mention it i do seem to remember the DAF cars having this.
The only vehicle i could think of at the time was, as you say, a moped!0
