JSA And Funeral Attendance

My job centre sent me on a 2 day course, I pointed out that one of the days fell on a hospital appointment, the horrible arrogant piece of work told me that if I didn't go on the course he'd have my money stopped, he even said if I'd been working i wouldn't have been able to attended the hospital anyway!!!!!!!!!0

ES90 action is not appropriate, this is because you are going out of the area to look for work not attend a funeral. You mentioned the job-centre looked at your records before saying no, hence you must have already used all four treated provisions therefore you make the choice of either not going to the funeral and attending as normal or go and attend your normal office on the first available day. They will then send the reasons to a DM.0

peapoddy: How did you get round that one?0

If the OP is going to a funeral they really should just let her go, I would do this for even the most obnoxious clients I deal with. We are not there to judge how close they are to family or friends, if they are lying it generally comes out in the wash further down the line.
No, but you are there are to refer doubts. It's not your place to decide if a person has good cause or is available.0 -
If you were at work, you would not be allowed paid leave to attend a friend's parent's funeral. You would have to take holiday leave and if you had used it all up, you would not be able to go.
What is the difference here?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Being hypothetical it could be that the OP is 'known' to the JCP in question and has used up any good will that may be floating around, not saying she is, but in their opinion they could have very good reasons for not allowing in this instance.Skint but Debt Free at Last :T0

Or you might be able to take unpaid leave. Or flexi-time.What is the difference here?
OP is not receiving the advantages of being in employment so isn't subject to the same obligations leading to those advantages.
Not being flippant but being at work and, therefore, unable to sit in the sun in the garden for half an hour doesn't mean someone unemployed can't do it.
As long as they're looking for work conscientiously, of course.0 -

But the OP is supposed to be available for, and seeking, work. Hence, JobSEEKERs' Allowance, which is what they are paid while they are out of work.
If they are attending a friend's parent's funeral, they are neither available for work nor seeking work. Unless they take holiday they are asking to be being paid for attending a funeral. This is not allowed. So, if they have no holiday left, they can't go.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Can they not take "unpaid leave". Ie sign off then sign back on? They would lose the days inbetween but better than nothing?0
