Afternoon tea 21st March

It's Wednesday afternoon. Time for afternoon tea. I've baked a fruit cake, bought a caramel fudge shortbread, and made little triangle sandwiches with the crusts cut off, just for you. The kettle is on and the table is laid with my best china. So, come and join me for a nice cup of tea and a chat.
(Let's see if we can find out where Rog has been for the last couple of months.) ;)
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D

  • Afternoon. If you don't mind my sniffles and coughing, I would love a cuppa.

  • Hi everyone, I'm glad you could all come. I am having a horrible time at the moment. My daughter is due to change schools in September and she hasn't got a place at the school she was hoping to go to. No, it's even worse than that, she hasn't got a place anywhere at all! Luckily, there is a very nice lady on the Family & Relationships board who has been advising me on how to appeal. She recommended a very good book about school appeals, so I hope you will excuse me if I just sit by the fire and read while you help yourselves to food and drinks. (There are some emergency Twiglets in the cupboard if anyone else is feeling sorry for themselves. I had to hide them because I keep picking at them when I can see them!)

Thats awful. Sounds like such a minefield. I am dreading the day I have kids to sort out schooling for. (not dreading the kids....but you know what I mean) when I was a lass it was so easy, you got a letter saying whether you had passed your 11+ or not to which school you go to. Mind you that was 20 years ago!!!!!

I have had to pre plan slightly for when son is old enough to go to high school. For personal reasons I don't want him at the local high school, therefore I applied for my daughter to attend a different high school, She was accepted, which will make it easier to get my son into that one.

  • I am still in shock. It has never been known for a child from a feeder school to not get a place at this particular school before. I have been overwhelmed by all the messages of support I have had though. I have realised too how highly people think of my daughter. I had a letter this morning from a lady who taught my daughter 2 years ago offering her support. I don't even know the lady, but she obviously thought enough of my daughter to write the letter.
People can be so kind when you need help, can't they?

Thanks for the invite - I was thinking about popping in! As far as school is concerned, I have a seven year old grandson and I would have thought his four year old sister would have automatically joined him when she started school but their parents have still had to apply for the place. Fortunately, she was lucky enough to get it. Then, they had to apply for him to move up to the junior school which is joined on to his primary and has the same name. He was lucky as well but it must be awful when it doesn't work out and mums have to take children to different schools. It's just not right. Good Luck - your daughter sounds like she has a lovely mum!
