I awoke this morning to a grey day and the sound of rain beating against the windows. As I lay there snuggled up in my new fleecy pyjama top under the winter weight duvet I counted my blessings. I believe these may be our Halcyon Days. All our troubles seem to be little ones and our blessings are many. I am so thankful for our good fortune.

Some say you make your own luck so I am determined to continue on the MS route. It will be harder over the next few months as there will be less money to spare for saving. There's the cost of Christmas of course and the early months of the year bring some big bills like the car insurances. We tend to take our foot off the brake during November and December to take advantage of all the extra social events - a reward for all the hard work we've put in during the year. Having said that, I don't want to undo all the good work so far so will still be applying the MS tips I've learnt.

    On that note:
    • some on-line Christmas shopping. I've only got 3 or 4 presents to get now. I was able to go through £Co for most things so will get some cash back. I've a little left on my Amaz0n gift certificate so will put that towards the present pot too. I got two Lanc0m£ bonus gifts with my purchases so will be Fleabaying those. Most of the presents will have to be posted this year so I'd better get wrapping soon. Might try doing 2 a day to spread the load
    • Mr F and I were talking after we went to the cinema on Friday. There are quite a few films we wanted to see this year and didn't get the chance so I've decided to buy these via Fleabay. Most are between £5 and £10 on Amaz0n so I'm only buying if I can get them for £3.50 each including postage. Lovefilm doesn't work for me because I often watch my favourite films again and again. Those I don't enjoy so much I will put back on Fleabay and can usually get my money back on them. So far I've managed to get Brid£$maid$, D£$picabl£ M£ and Inc£pti0n
    • Sausage and Lentil Casserole with Horseradish Mash and Peas from the meal plan for dinner tonight. Should be enough to stretch to 2 meals
    • I've reset the heating to take account of the falling temperatures. 16 degrees overnight, 18 from when we get up, 19 from 4.00 pm until bedtime. Our living room is at the back of the house which is north facing and single storey so gets quite cold in the latter part of the day. We use the log burner most evenings so that saves on the heating oil.
The log burner is roaring away at the moment (one of the shortcuts to happiness) but Mr F is watching the Grand Prix and I don't know if I'd count that as a blessing :rotfl:

Off to wrap 2 of those presents now. Happy Sunday.

I really do love your positive attitude FS, although I confess to looking up Halcyon Days as I had never heard of this expression. Lovely to hear that you are experiencing this time:heart2:

    PS. I have log-burner envy:D

Sausage and lentil casserole sounds fab... Is it your own recipe or is there a URL that you can send in my direction? Thx x

Thanks Natty - although I have to confess to having my grumpy days as well. I think reading the diaries really helps - just reminds me to make the most of the good times in case there's a curve ball around the corner.

Another one from my favourite sites lulabelle - BBC G00d F00d - just put "sausage lentil" in the search box and it should come up. I'm a big fan of one-pot recipes - saves on the washing up :rotfl:Making this one with chipolatas as a pack of 12 will do 2 meals for us whereas a pack of 6 normal sausages will only do 1 and a half.

    Hope you like it

Thank you my lovely, off to google and will pop it on the meal planner after we've eaten this lot! Will follow suit and do chippolatas too.

Love your diary, not just for the meal tips!

Hmmm, there are a couple of options when I do the search. Which chef does the one that you use? Thx x

Tonight it's the Sausage & lentil one-pot but I've also made the Italian Sausage, Puy Lentil & Rosemary Stew and both are good. Got to go for the comfort food now - it is November after all :rotfl:
