Hi
I always had the radio on when I was home with my two when they were tiny.
If its too quiet they hear everything whereas if there is background noise they don't notice the noise you make.

Aren't you expecting a bit much for a two-week-old baby? At this age they are unlikely to follow *any* sort of routine, and it should be expected the days/nights/evenings pass in sleep-deprived delerium.
Im not expecting anything, did I mention I was expecting things? This young family arent getting sleep so ideas is what im asking for, this young family arent unemployed and they need some sleep, also if family are over 200 miles away its not just a case of can you look after the baby tonight.
Im not expecting anything, been there done it. Thanks for your input. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

Some babies just don't settle well. I know mine didn't, he had reflux but he was a bad sleeper at night, my OH had uni and work, but red bull and coffee were his best friends.
We used various devices but I'd be wary of getting used to something, unless they still want to be using it in 3 years time. There are a few apps on phones you can get, that will play background noise, rain/water/waves etc, that used to settle our son, but it was a nightmare to get him out of it.
He's only 2 weeks old, it's normal for them to be up all night, every night. You just have to grab sleep while you canThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
depends on the baby! some like classical music, some prefer 'Talk shows' while some (like my youngest granddaughter), prefers heavy metal!0

There's a white noise app for some phones that some people swear by.
I hit on the rather unexpected solution of a rainmaker toy the other day at baby group - I guess it sounds like the very long shhhhhhh that calms my girl down and she likes to watch the beads fall through the holes as well.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I'm not a baby but when I am struggling to sleep sometimes I play this on my phone

(probably just like it because it's the same tune from a lullaby I had as a kid)

Has various noises including white noise, heartbeat and lullabies and will switch itself on when the baby cries, then off again after a while.
My daughter settles well with the heartbeat noise.
Best of luck xx

Ooh, also, have they tried swaddling the baby?
DD only ever slept at that age when swaddled very tightly.

If it's colic there are a couple of videos on You Tube which show 'holds' which may help. TBH, nothing works but as a new patent myself at least I felt like I was doing my best to help. HTH0
