Cheapest postage to America?

Its not a ebay question but I know posters on this board sometimes sell to the US so I was hoping to pick your brains.

My daughter has a "pen friend" in the US and wants to send him some English sweets for his birthday in August the package will weigh about 1.5kg

Has any one got any suggestions for the cheapest co to post with or is royal mail the only real option, she's been quoted £15 for 2kg with 60 days delivery time.

All suggestions gratefully received :D

60 days sounds like surface mail. Not knowing the size, it may be easier to split the packages and send them airmail small packets.

Yes, 60 days must be surface mail.

For a 1.5kg packet, Royal Mail Airmail at £20.81 with 5 - 7 days delivery time is probably the cheapest by air service you will find.

Its not cheap to send heavy packets overseas!!

so we are finding out! Looks like she might have to revise what she's sending, £20 is more than the items she's sending cost!

thanks for the suggestions so far :)

If you reduce to it 1kg including packaging the price drops to £14.08.

Have a look at the RM Price Finder here - https://www.royalmail.com/price-finder

Try DHL in Staples, I seem to recall they had some offers between 1 and 2kg. You probably won't shave much off £20 though.

Also try looking on some websites that sells the items she wants to send, they may have better postage deals to send direct, I know Amazon do.

We've got family in the US and were spending fortune on post until we discovered that way of doing it. Now we spend the money on the gift rather than the post, birthday cards are the best we use one of the US sites that print from our own download, we're very popular there now:D

I'd looked at Transglobal earlier and it was showing as £22 + vat. Its doubtful Parcels2go will be any cheaper. Generally anything under 2kg is cheaper through Royal Mail.
