ebico cost more than BG for electric :-(

I have been with British gas for a while and the problems I have had are as follows
1) They seem to set my DD high, so each time I've had to call and reduce it.
2) Their website is quite often down and they've "upgraded" the system at least once so I have very little bill history (it's disappered in the upgrade).
Other than that I've had no problems.
Personally I'm sticking with BG for the time being.
I think if you are a fairly eager moneysaver and you are willing to keep your eye on things (and change tarriff if necessary) then you will be better off with British gas.
If you want to stick with one company forever and not bother about it then Ebico are probably the better choice.
I am going to change tarrif shortly but BG is still my best option by quite a long way so I'm a fairly satisfied customer (I'm with Ebico for gas so like them too).
Alared comes across very much as if there is some personal axe to grind.
It's a free country so let's stick to the facts and then let people chose.0 -
I have had appalling service from BG over the years, as a result they lost 3/4 of my custom to Ebico. I like Ebico's simplistic approach, what you use is what you pay, no Gordon Brown like smoke and mirrors re tariffs.

However I have had to bite my tongue with the discovery of Click2 , a "hidden" BG tariff. This saves me 1.58p per Kwhr over Ebico, so Ebico will have to reduce their electricity by more than 16% to compete. Is this likely?ac's lovechild0 -
No axe to grind whatsoever.
In fact if you go back to post #3,you`ll find what I advised there to be the best approach possible.0 -
No axe to grind whatsoever.
You definitely exhibit very strong opinions (in the very post you pointed to) which I don't think contribute to a balanced discussion with factual information.
I am aware of a number of issues with BG but because I'm an "avid" moneysaver I'm willling to put up with that to save money.
That's MY informed choice.
Let's give people facts and let them make their own choice.
Strong opinions without facts are not really very helpful to a balanced debate.
As I said, some people may be willing to put up with a number of things to save money. This may not be the best approach for you but it may be the best approach for others who either have less money, more tolerance or maybe both.0 -

Well said!
Throughout this forum there is an outpouring of criticism of certain companies – BG and BT being prime recipients of what often amounts to abuse.
Much of the invective directed against these companies is irrational and is a result of a(historical) poor experience with their customer service, or anger that BG’s standard tariff for gas was the most expensive available. People don’t appear to appreciate, or simply don’t wish to acknowledge, that BG were forced by the Regulator to maintain the highest prices for gas; their electricity has always been pretty reasonable.
However from a price perspective, BG have now got their act together and are extremely competitive. If the reputation of BG’s poor customer service is a deterrent, the solution is simple, don’t use them.
The huge groundswell of support for Ebico was primarily based on the fact that they were cheaper(and didn’t this forum get told and told about it) – now they ain’t! I can’t help feeling that many who(wisely) switched to Ebico some while ago, are now annoyed that BG and others have undercut Ebico and are lashing out at BG as a way of justifying their choice to stay with Ebico.
I totally agree with alared’s point about a ‘dog chasing his tail’ and if I were with Ebico I would probably hang on for a while – but, personally, not to September just hoping they might cut prices.
What I don’t agree with him about is ‘BG’s Hype’. BG are simply much cheaper than Ebico – that’s not hype! Of course the situation may change – it has been a case of leapfrogging tariffs for the last few years – so why should it change?0 -
I used to be a switchaholic energy moneysaver but I had nothing but trouble with EDF and PowerGen so I ended up with Ebico. What I learnt from them is that service is worth money. Yes BG can be cheaper, especially for a high user (and with a child in reusable nappies anyone is a high user) and especially with electric. But would I switch to save £120. Hmmm, probably for that amount yes, but certainly not for under a 100.

I don’t think anyone could argue with those sentiments; we all place a different value on ‘peace of mind’. Many people also simply do not want the hassle of changing suppliers as, whist it works for some, others report huge problems.
Some people on the other hand would ‘sell their Granny’ if it meant getting some Nectar or Tesco points(whatever they are) and change suppliers all the time!
It also has to be said that if you have been with a company for years, you tend to have less problems.
I have remained with BG as I am on Price Protection 2010(which is even cheaper than Click Energy2)
I don’t have problems with BG customer Service because I don’t need to contact them – everything works on my 4 accounts – even the estimated readings are close enough; my DDs are close enough as well.
Their website is close to being the worst I have ever seen, but I really don’t need to look at it very often.0 -
i actually kind of see Alared's point over British Gas, despite it being correct that yes they are technically cheaper the tariff has only been availbale for 5mins and no-one has physically saved any money yet! i guess time will tell but past history of click lifespan's suggest that it's not to be trusted. Last year BG had the most expensive tariff's online. BG are suddenly the cheapest online for electric only (they are in about 5th place for gas) and all of a sudden a lot of past sins seem to be forgiven. If BG remain consistently cheap then perhaps they might be worth considering until then personally i would consider every option but0
