ebico cost more than BG for electric :-(
Hi
Just had a quick look on uswitch and have found that by switching my electricity to them I can save over £120 a year, must admit am a little disapointed with ebico as I have used them for a few years now and have had no problems and have liked the fact that they are socially responsible (I prefer to pay quaterly) but £120 is a lot to be socially responsible
Anyone know if they plan to reduce prices, any know I had an email recently saying that they will reduce when and if they can but any thoughts before I jump ship would be welcome
Many thanks
Jim

In the past Ebico have put their prices down in September.
This means that at the moment it isn't a "level playing field".
It's very difficult to judge whether you would be better off long term with BG or Ebico.
I am quite a high user as I have a large house (with a hot tub) and I find that BG are cheaper so I'm sticking with them.0 -
For a start don`t believe the switching sites, they get about £50 for everyone they get to switch.
Find out the exact rate BG are charging per unit and calculate how much leccy you use over one YEAR.
Then add up what Ebico are charging compared to BG (who I wouldn`t trust as far as I could throw them)
My leccy rate with Ebico is
normal daytime units 10.97p
night rate 3.73p all including vat0 -

Have just been onto bg website and done the maths, would have saved just over £30 on last bill with BG so the figures by uswitch are pretty accurate0 -

the hare and the tortoise
Bg dont seem to have minimum term for this plan so could jump ship back to the tortoise, if ebico dont reduce prices untill sept then thats approx 60quid saved by being with bg for that time,,,, might also take them up on some of the insulation discounts they do as well as ebico dont do these (or at least i dont think they do)
Think im probably going to switch to bg unless anyone can think of a great reason not to?
cheers jim0 -

You have to take a whole YEARS figures to give you an accurate reading,no use just one bill.
You need to know your consumption for a whole year.0 -
If you are not already with Ebico, then Click2 electricity seems the place to go till Ebico reduce their prices, otherwise I think the Ebico reduction will come sooner than September. We'll see.ac's lovechild0

Getting in my disclaimer first - I am a fan of Ebico. I like their ethos and the flat rate for all tariffs(DD, quarterly payment, pre-payment)
They were always very competitive for Gas, especially the low user - the flat rate really makes a difference.
They have never been the best for Electricity, except for the very low user, and their E7 rates were not good; not expensive but not the cheapest.
With the current round of price cuts they have obviously become less competitive and will remain so until they cut their prices.
The decision on whether loyalty to a patently admired company like Ebico should overide savings(possibly for just a few months) is surely up to the individual.0 -
I have been with Ebico for some time, but i am thinking of changing to BG.
The main reason is that i would save £43 a year 12p. per day that Southern (Ebico) charge for my gas being an independant supplier.
I have checked with BG and they do not make this charge.0 -
B Gas leccy only prices are coming up as
day rate 24.042p for the first 225kwh per quarter, then the rest at 11.477p
night rate 2.454p all include vat
So overall for leccy only Ebico is still cheaper.
1Jim was only talking about switching leccy.
