ebico cost more than BG for electric :-(

B Gas leccy only prices are coming up as
day rate 24.042p for the first 225kwh per quarter, then the rest at 11.477p
night rate 2.454p all include vat
So overall for leccy only Ebico is still cheaper.
1Jim was only talking about switching leccy.
My leccy rate with Ebico is
normal daytime units 10.97p
night rate 3.73p all including vat
Sorry you just can't make that assumption.
It depends on how much electricity you use on Economy 7 timings.
Don't forget that Ebico's E7 rate is 52% more expensive than BG's E7 rate.(for your area)
Also BG give a good discount for paying by DD.
If you don't use much at E7 rates, then look at BG's Click energy rates for your area(I appreciate they don't have E7 on that tariff) of 9.755/7.634p and compare that with Ebico's rate. BG are much cheaper; also you get discounts on top of that. You will almost certainly be better off leaving the E7 tariff.
As said above I am a fan of Ebico, but there is no doubt now that BG's products are cheaper than Ebico, particularly for dual fuel customers.0 -
The majority of the saving will be on electric, however any saving £120 quoted has to be taken with a pinch of salt you are comparing the markets most volatile tariff with a tariff that is relatively dormant that many expect to lower soon. So i wonder how much of the £120 quoted as a saving actually finds its way into your pockets. Difficult decision, I'm sticking with Ebico personally0

I agree with Cardew re leccy. For me electricity is 8.207p/Kw after a tier1 "standing charge" of £6.08, whereas Ebico is 9.786p, so considerable if you (or your family
)are a high user.
Forgot to mention that if you switch to BG then GO VIA QUIDCO as you get £20 per service.
BGs Click2 leccy has a "standing charge" of only £6.08, so not as punative for low users as gas s.c.(£24.41!)

I went to energyhelpline and put in my details for duel fuel and for me,BG came well down the list minus£80.
Npower sign online was top but hardly worth moving to for the small amount saved.
Other point is,Ebico hasn`t made their move yet and while BG were putting it up three times a year,Ebico went a whole year before increasing prices just the once.
Most people go to the switching sites and don`t have a clue what they use or what the cost per annum is.
Hence
"I can save £150 by switching to XYZ"
A complete load of nonsense.
It takes about six weeks to switch and by then someone else will claim to be cheaper

Have just been onto bg website and done the maths, would have saved just over £30 on last bill with BG so the figures by uswitch are pretty accurate
This bill was presumably for winter. You wont save as much now over the warmer months. Ebico last changed rates in September 2006. It may be worth waiting till then or thereabouts before winter starts before considering a switch. Also keep an eye on Martins traffic light when to switch supplier switch which is currently on dont switch.

I seem to have stirred up some strong feeling here
I agree that with summer approaching I wont use as much electricity as I have done over winter, asuming we get a lot of sunny/warm/windy days we will be able to dry the nappies on the line rather than using tuble drier although will still have to do at least one wash load a day so saving may be less,
but
based on last quater bill I would have saved £30 by using BG tarif for electricity so I can see my electricity usage dropping so much that the £30 saving would be wiped out totally
BG Click2 prices for me.... for 1st 225kw/quater price is 9.290p, therafter is 7.270p excl vat
ebico is flat rate of 8.91p
so would have to be quite a light user not to save money
Also BG say for this tarif that they have "
no cancellation fee and no tie-ins
If you decide to cancel at any time, we will not charge you a cancellation fee and there are no tie-ins. "
so if the prices suddenly go up can change and if it only takes 6weeks to change suppliers then I can be back to ebico in no time at all.
I do like ebico and I do like the ethical approach but Im on this forum to save money, this seems a good way of doing that0 -
Have just been onto bg website and done the maths, would have saved just over £30 on last bill with BG so the figures by uswitch are pretty accurate
Just one point is that you would not have saved £30 with BG as their charges were higher for that period, having only just been reduced to the figures you are quotiing.
And dont forget you can get an extra £20 per switch to BG, by using http://www.quidco.com/british-gas/
BTW I have 3 accounts with Ebico and 1 with click2ac's lovechild0 -
Trouble is you may only be on click2 for a few months, then you discover there is a click3 and a click4 and BG come out with something like "to be fair to ALL our customers we`ve decided to put everyone on the same tariff"
Which turns out to be nothing like you originally signed up for.
These people are great manipulators and they create "fog and fudge" to bambozzle everybody.
They know the average "joe on the street" can`t be bothered, can`t count, are inert, lethargic and believe all their lies.0 -
They know the average "joe on the street" can`t be bothered, can`t count, are inert, lethargic and believe all their lies.
But that doesnt really count for most people on here who are considering/willing to change...... it could be argued that ebico are counting on the average joe's lethargy/cant be bothered attitude in keeping their prices static for longer in the hope that people wont move.....someone maybe just a little bit like you  (winds them up and heads off to work)

I have know way of knowing whether Ebico fixes contracts with SE,SWALEC for a whole year or not.
But if they do,then Sept seems the likely move in a reduction, having said that,June has been mentioned on other boards.
If you want to switch,Jim,
go ahead
it`s a free country.
Remember the dog that chases it`s tail.
If you believe BG`s hype,go ahead, but you`ll regret it.
I`m sure you`re "doing the right thing"0
