Recorded is a waste of time it is not a tracked service doesn't guarantee delivery and frequently does not show delivered. The insurance is the same as for normal mail. It also puts customers off and encourages worse DSRs.

I would disagree about putting customers off and low DSRs - never been an issue IME

Same here with no signature for RD, though SD is kept back at the PO.

It's a nuisance and inconvenient. If I buy something on eBay, I tend to avoid recorded delivery since it costs more and doesn't do anything for me.

I certainly have had no problems not using it, not that could have had other explanations (simple loss in post).

I have recently sold items on Ebay and i was contacted by a buyer stating the item which was a Genuine Barbour coat has not been recieved and a dispute was opened and still ongoing, I have proof of postage and also added extra terms to the listing due to previous designer items not being recieved. I stated in the listing that due to numerous parcels going missing that i would post first class with proof of postage but strongly advise to request recorded delivery at the end of the auction for a further cost of £1.00 but this service would only be added on request and if the buyer did not choose this option then i would not be held responsible for items not recieved and if the bidder/buyer was not happy with the terms they where asked not to bid. Can anyone tell me where i stand with this.

    how did you wrap it.
nice and safe in brown paper?
As said, all that hyperbole is pointless

I'll stick with being 95p cheaper than my competitors, that certainly doesn't hurt!
