Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit upgrade

I have a new computer, well a new motherboard/processor and graphics card, running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, and was thinking of upgrading to the 64 bit version as I do a lot of video editing and would like to upgrade my memory from its present 4 GB.
The computer originally started out as a leaving present from the company I retired from (not stolen in case anyone thinks that, but that is why it has windows 7 ultimate ) and the only original part left is the OS and the case, everything else has been replaced over a few years.
I only have a 32 bit version on disc.
So is it possible to download a 64 bit version of windows 7 ultimate as I believe that the windows key does for both versions?

You just need to get hold of any Windows 7 x64 install DVD. The version that gets installed is determined by the product key you enter during installation.
Currently you'll only be using about 2.5GB of the 4GB installed due to the limitations of 32 bit.0 -
The product keys would be different i think x64 entitled you to both 32/64 and 32 to only 320

if all you have is an OEM product key then that is specific to either x32 or x64, if you have a retail product key then all you need to do is download or borrow a x64 windows 7 ultimate DVD install and activate that.Notmyrealname wrote: »You just need to get hold of any Windows 7 x64 install DVD. both your points are wrong, you enter the product key after the DVD has already been installed (during first setup) and a standard windows 7 install disc will only let you install the version that's written on it, you need to hack a windows 7 iso (or DVD) before you start installation to be able to install all versions of windows 7 off one CD read here (ie the version that is installed in NOT determined by the product key)
also the second point, a 32bit system can make use of 3.5GB of RAM0 -
Just a reminder, check your processor is 64bit ! as you do not say.0

It's like this Jayme1, everytime I go to that website that you recommend it usually sends me round in circles before I find what I am looking for so I ask on this most knowledgeable forum instead but if you think that posting that link is clever then good for you.
Thanks TakeThis.0 -

Thanks TakeThis.
If being able to use Google makes me clever then it must speak volumes to someone who can't.
Because the direct download links are the property of Microsoft and in order to obtain the download links you are supposed to buy windows from Microsoft, it questionable if we are supposed to post the links to the direct download.
So I think you should be pretty grateful that I not only gave you the search term to use but also gave it as a link that enters the search term for you and displays the results instead of making snide comments, perhaps you should get of your lazy 'I-want-it-now-but-someone-else-do-the-work-for-me' high horse and be prepared to do some leg work.0 -
for all you who thought I didn't know what I was doing, didn't answer my question, gave unneeded answers or asked unnecessary questionscheck your processor is 64bityou need to hack a windows 7 iso (or DVD) before you start installation to be able to install all versions of windows 7The version that gets installed is determined by the product key you enter during installation.
since when?
etc
I downloaded the iso from the link that TakeThis supplied,
burnt it to a DVD, stuck it in my computer and restarted with the DVD drive as the boot device, followed the instructions that appeared on the screen, entered the windows key, activated automatically when I went online.
Would it have done that if I had a dodgy copy or windows key?
And downloaded all windows updates.
Only one problem, but please only post if you have a solution not links to that stupid google page, which implies that the poster who posts that thinks that the person who asks a question on here is too thick to use google, my HP 1005 laser printer no longer works, no driver. If being able to use Google makes me cleaver then it must speak volumes to someone who can't.
At least I can spell clever.0
