Congrats on a girl Ellie
I've just come back to bed as have had a couple of bad days that ended up with me at local walk in last night. Turns out I have a dodgy water infection, that may be a kidney infection. Have sent off a sample. Antibiotics seem to already be helping, but am shattered from 3 nights of poor sleep (know I need to get used to that again soon :rotfl:) and the constant back pain when walking around. Hopefully bit of sleep will help
Will be back on in a bit to catch up x0 -

Hello ladies, sorry for the late post, but I have had my baby ... wooohooo!! :-)
I am a little nervous about posting his name, which I know sounds a little odd but my OH's ex girlfriend is incredibly odd and googles me a lot, so I don't want her searching for his name on the internet and being able to read my posts. Anyway his first name is Ellis and his middle names are H**** (think prince, not William) and J**** (rhymes with flames) and he came into the world at 6.38am on Tuesday 16th October 2012, 12 days overdue, weighing 8lbs and is the absolute apple of mummy and daddy's eyes.
My birth story is as follows ..... On Monday 15th October I was 11 days overdue, and was told to call the hospital at 8.30am to check if they had a bed for me. I was asked to come in at 1pm, given a bed and examined. I was 1cm. At 3pm they examined me again, inserted a propress to begin the contractions. Uncomfortable, but that's because I was tense about the whole thing. I was with my OH and my mum and aside from some slight period pains during the afternoon there was no progress. By 10pm they were sent home, and I was told to sleep. From after 11pm onwards the periods pains started to get more intense and by midnight I went and got a midwife and asked her to examine me again. This time 1cm-2cm.... so disappointed. The contractions however were all over the place (6 in 10 minutes) but not actually doing anything, so they told me to go the loo and remove the propress myself, which I did, then went back to bed.
I was in a room with two other women, both of whom were sleeping, and although I was in a lot of pain, I didn't want to wake them so stayed in my bed and was wide awake for the next few hours. The pains were intensifying, but by 3am they were horrendous. I got out of bed and went to the loo, and noticed some pinkish liquid in my pad, then when I went for a wee, the toilet filled with it too. My waters! By this point, the pain was overwhelming. I cried and laid on the bathroom floor for a while, before managing to unlock the bathroom door, and get out into the hallway where I collapsed.
Two midwives came and found me on the floor. They were wonderful with me. I remember telling them "I'm 1cm and I can't do it. If this is 1cm, I can't do anymore, You're going to have to stop it. I don't want to do it anymore. Please just stop it!". They led me through to a delivery room, and examined me again, and told me I was 9cm!!! On no pain relif - me!!! I was amazed, but also scared. As some of you know I was Group B Strep and am supposed to have 4 hours of antibiotics in labour. Clearly there wasn't going to be time.
The next part is all a bit of a blur. My OH and mum were called to come back, and made it to the hospital around 5am. I was given gas and air for the final centimeter, and then also a pethidine shot. I really don't remember too much of it but OH and my mum have been good at bringing it back to me (including offering to go and get OH a steak slice between pushes as he looked tired, telling the midwife not to drop my baby when she tipped the end of the bed down for delivery and apologising repeatedly to the midwife for kicking her, when I hadn't).
Towards the end, after much pushing, he just wasn't coming out, and they started to become concerned about my blood loss. They brought in a doctor, who said "If you don't push this baby out, I'm going to have to do something which is going to really hurt you" and went for the forceps. That was enough for me. In a few more pushes he was out, and placed straight onto my tummy. OH cried, I cried, my mum cried. The doctor later apologised for whats she'd said, but said I need scaring into it.
I did have a second degree tear, lost a lot of blood, and had to stay in hospital for two more nights. Ellis had a cannula and antibiotics to protect against GBS, but he's fully clear and healthy!
We came home on Thursday and so far he's been wonderful. He only wakes at either 2am or 3am in the night, then not again till 7am or 8am. He is just perfect in every way and I'm so proud of him and myself and OH for what we created. We're just so in love with him and can't remember life without our little man! Seeing your OH dote on your little boy is a wonderful feeling.
I'm quite sore, very bruised and my stitches really sting when I wee, but I'm getting there, and I managed to get my pre-preg jeans on yesterday which felt great. He's just chilling out now in his moses basket, and is such a happy little boy!
I definitely didn't get the birth I wanted - I wanted to be in a pool and have yoga music playing - haha, not even close. I definitely didn't to be laid on my back in a bed, with my OH and mum nearly missing it, but hey ho thats what happened. To be honest the outcome was exactly as I wanted and that's all that matters.
So my advice would be
* Don't become too set on your birth plan as with the best will in the world, it might not happen that way
* It really does feel like the baby is coming out of your bum, rather than your lady bottom, and no you really won't care if you do poo (I didn't. but couldn't have cared less if I did)
* If you have two birth partners, get one to write down details of when things happens/ things you said etc, as you will forget and its so nice for someone to be able to recount your birth experience for you
Congratulations to all the other new mummies, and lots of luck to all those getting closer to your due dates :-) Its such a magical time!0 -

Nearly had my option of breast feeding taken away tonight! I was putting my pjs on and my DD was trying to show me her remote control helicopter. Let's just say she needs a bit more practice in steering it  I was scared to look, thought my nipple was hanging off but thankfully it felt sorer than it was :rotfl::j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0
