    At the moment you're looking at twoc and possibly no insurance, probably a fine maybe probation or community service for first timer. If you set fire to the car and get caught you will almost certainly go to prison for upwards of a year.

    By making the call, changing the tyre and bringing it back to the house in a damaged state you have left a trail of evidence. You also need to worry about any of your friends grassing on you.

    You need to be able to physically know how to steal the car and drive it away as well as come up with a good story.

    The Insurance company always investigate fire claims, especially one with existing accident damage and your sister with the perfect alibi of being on holiday. The investigations will be special interview techniques on your sister and possible forensic investigations on the car (They will pay particular attention to how it was stolen and driven). If they have any suspicions they will look even further which could involve asking neighboors etc.

    The above is what the Insurers will do as they always find theft and fire claims suspicious. The police may just file a report or they may also look into it especially if they get a report of it having a crash a few days before.

    A local criminal that steals and / or sets fire to cars (It's quite rare now days for a thief to do this) would normally have stolen similar cars using the same method in the local area. The absence of similar crimes in your local area will be one of the alarm bells that alert the Police and certainly the Insurers.

    If there are investigations, suspicion of fraud and arson will fall on your sister initially as she would be the person to benefit from the theft and fire. If the evidence is pointing towards a fraudulent claim would you be prepared to sit by and watch your sister accused of fraud / arson and the ramifications to her of it.

    To carry it out properly I doubt you have the nous to do it without leaving a trail that will initially point to your sister arranging it. As I said before should they work it out you will be convicted of theft and arson and possibly peverting the cause of justice. The courts don't like theft and arson is a big no no with them, it's a certain jail term.

    Do not under estimate how efficient Insurers are at discovering dodgy fire claims, they have centuries of experience in working out if a fire claim is dodgy and how it was caused.

    When the police discover the burning car, they will be straight around the house, if they think you're acting suspiciously it will raise their suspicions. Do you realise that if you use something like petrol to start the fire, it will leave forensic evidence on you.

    Stop making it worse for yourself and your sister, man up admit it to your sister and try your best to sort out the problems you have caused

    I would say pop down to the bank, get a loan (not secured on the car obviously) and after apologising over and over again let your sister choose herself a nice new car when she gets home.

    But unfortunately you're in way too much and will probably be arrested anyway.

    Thanks everyone. You've cheered up my evening :beer:

    Something to remember before you decide to torch your sisters car - not all insurance companies pay out for fire. When my car burned, the insurance company told me that it was 'the wrong kind of fire' so I wasn't covered. I guess it just wasn't yellow enough, or smokey enough.

    OP, if this is all true, you need to get off that horse of yours about prejudice (prejudice against what exactly?? none of us can see/hear/smell/otherwise you) and start practicing groveling very low on the floor.

    If my brother trashed my car like you did and then grovelled profusely I *might* let him get away with just paying all my costs. If he behaved as you are doing (I don't care. They all hate me anyway. Poor poor me. Oh woe is me. I only did it because she's horrible to me etc etc) I would be on the phone within seconds to report the criminal offences to the police.

    Seriously. Grow up and take some responsibility for your life and your actions. Most adults manage it.

    And if you're a Troll. Just Grow up.

    Two things you definitely shouldn't do are inventing some story about the car being stolen, or asking your sister to pretend that she was driving and claim of her insurers. You're likely to find that the penalties for wasting police time, perverting the course of justice and/or defrauding her insurers would be greater than the penalties for the actual offences you've committed.
    Just in case you missed it eight pages ago.

    Samuel_ - despite your lack of response to earlier, salient and helpful posts, I have only three more things to add here:

    1) Your responses to Sgt. Pepper suggest very strongly that you are trolling and have latched onto him/her as the object of your "wit";

    2) That you ought to know that subjects such as this are no laughing matter. REAL lives - and (given that this is MSE) innocent individuals' foreseeable financial futures have been ruined by the issues you discuss. Troll if you MUST (and I pity you if you have no other recourse but to do this in order to occupy yourself) but not on driving without insurance, stealing cars, causing sorrow to your family and fleeing a crime scene (whether or not you were sufficiently drunk as to be over the legal limit);

    3) Whatever your problems in life - be they precisely as expressed within these forum threads, OR as an individual who seeks validation and some sort of human interaction through inappropriate forum posts - I hope that you are, one day, able to find the help, support, and better future that you obviously need.

    Don't seek help from (or seek to goad) well-meaning others unless you are willing to take steps to help yourself.
