I've also just used Travelrepublic and found their prices were actually cheaper than booking flights, hotel, transfers etc separately - this really suprised me! Their fee for booking by credit card also seemed reasonable (although I have to hold my hand up and say this is the first holiday I have booked online and didn't compare all the different operators fees).

I have no experience of Ryanair but I have to admit I was definitely put off using them by other comments and reviews. I did notice too that although their flights looked cheaper than Easyjet initially, with all the extras they actually cost around the same. Again, I have to say I have no personal experience of them, if they are good its a shame that they are missing out on customers, like me, who just "don't want to take the chance".

You might also want to check out Teletext holidays online, looked like they had some good deals available but unfortunately nothing that suited us.

Have a great holiday though...I can't wait to leave rainy Britain behind for a couple of weeks. :)

Quite a few of the established travel agents now create holidays using low cost flights, I had a look at Olympic recently and they now work that way.

It does give a better choice of flight times and costs than traditional travel agents and you are not limited to 7 or 14 nights.

On Travelrepublic for instance you choose your flight from a list of charter, and low cost flights, select a hotel and the site then offers extras such as resort transfers or car hire.

Its not that different from Thomson really, if you are worried about boarding passes look for an Easyjet flight, the hand luggage allowed is larger and not weight limited and if you don`t want to check in on line you can do it the old fashioned way if you like for no extra charge. You still have to pay extra for hold luggage.

I tend to avoid Ryanair as unless you are able to grab a super special £1 flight they are not noticeably cheaper than their rivals, nobody seems to actually like flying with them!

  • Thanks for your replies. I'm going to check Travelrepublic in a bit. I think we will either go to Majorca or Lanzarote if we can get a good price - though, if Barbados comes up in our price range WE WILL GO THERE.:D

You will need a Tardis if you want to get there in four hours tops.

Also meant to mention Tripadvisor.co.uk I looked at loads of hotels and checked each one with TA. We chose the hotel based on recent reviews and then looked for cheapest packages. :)

Used Easyjet for the first and last time this year unless allocated seating is brought in (which is in the pipeline).

Aircraft and flight staff were fine, but the pushing, shoving and running was mental; I was gobsmacked!!
  • OK we're booked to Lanzarote for 11 nights self catering staying at the Sol Lanzarote. We've never been to Lanzarote or anywhere in Spain, but since Majorca is out of buget (couldn't get any cheap deals to stay in Alcudia), anywhere cheap and hot was good enough. The flight is 15 mins over what I wanted:rotfl:(4hrs 15 mins) but there you go. Total costs was £2055 which includes 3 x checked luggage, private transfer and travel insurance. I couldn't be @rsed to go through Quidco for the ins. I have no idea which airline we're flying with, as it didn't say at time of booking and I've literally just booked it.

Hopefully that's us done and dusted.
