Yes, I now have a link. After four hours of punting round the internet you learn one or two things.

However, the points I am making is that I do not have the option of managing this via the bank's site since they don't talk to Alliance and Leicester and Alliance and Leicester have never heard of it.

Also, I did not know that Alliance and Leicester still existed. I am just a poor bloody customer.

I was answering the advice on this forum about using the bank's link to do it ..........there isn't one.

There is no guidance on how to find that link and so it took a long time on Google.

Alliance and Leicester were taken over by Santander and presumed defunct. No-one mentioned that you still had to deal with them for certain services.

When I finally spoke to them they didn't know how to manage VbV and had to go and ask a supervisor who got it wrong anyhow.

Thank you Figment but have you tried to manage an Alliance and Leicester debit card via your link. You can tell it you are in the United Kingdom then whether you tell it you are Alliance and Leicester or Santander it takes you to the Santander home page.

Santander aka Bradford & Bigley - Alliance and Leicester etal are absolutely useless. I'm ex Bradford & Bigley and have had an account for 30 years, indeed my mortgage is still to this day with Bradford & Bingley now Santander.

When Santander took over I was invited to go paperless and internet based, four months later they admitted they were unable to 'rationalise' all Bradford & Bingly accounts and set up what they called a specialist team dealing only with Bradford & Bingley cutomer accounts. Two months later and an in person visit to my local branch office they were still unable to set up a bog standard 'log in' system.

My old debit card was replaced regularly, my mortgage is paid regularly, I was still able to draw money from a visit to a branch or the 'hole-in-the-wall, but still no 'log in' access to an internet account. I do have other accounts with other banks so I did the obvious, withdrew all but £20 to keep the account alive, stopped any money ever going into that account and never used or tried to use the account ever again.

Well now the reason for the above story. It seems to me that many / mainly those who are having / have had trouble with 3DS in this thread are mainly Santander customers, I'd suspect the useless Santander as the culprit not the 3DS merchant itself.
