Where did you buy your tinned hummus Westcoastscot? If you can could you put up the brand?
Gq while reading your post about your work preps I realised it would be a good idea to buy a few of those face cloths that are micro sized till you put them in water. They are for children but I don't care if I'm wiping my face with bob the builderI will also go back to putting my emergency pouch in my handbag.

My knees and hips may be shot but my upper body is still strong. That is why I was so mad after my car accident as it was my upper body that was most affected. Physio sorted it though.0 -
Grandma speaking of those mini flannel thingies I got a pack of xmas ones cheaply on ebay after xmas for our BOB's they were only about £2 for 5 I think
Ebay is also handy for packs of travel toothbrushes etc

I bought one of those min facecloth thingies a few years back, Cinderellavery pretty it is, pink and all that, Cinderella has a nice shock of yellow hair
came in very handy when stranded in The Highlands one time, it was in my backpack and out it came to do a clean up job with a small stream. I still have it today, though nowadays its full size as cannot make it shrink to the size of a postage stamp again sadly. I'd love to get to some for emergency packs.

One place I like to hunt for stuff for preparedness is Lidl's - those isles down the centre that is full of all sorts, its kinda pot luck when you arrive, what you will find etc. but great for picking up odd bits of stuff. I got a fabulous carving iron (for carving names into bits of wood etc.) for only 5 pounds a few months back, retails for over 40 pounds elsewhere. I'm off there shortly to see what stuff they have for if the SHTF. I'm quite enjoying all this lol (though hubby worries about the amount of stuff I am collecting).0

Our Wilkies sell the flannels
Ok I found some on ebay 20 for £2.49 with free postage. They are in Hongkong. The only person I know who has had anything from Hongkong is my oldest dd and she got the items fine so I am going to order one pack for now and see how it goes. If they come ok then will order more for friends.0 -
... I think my old backpack is a good candidate for a stash, good for carrying but I use a little suitcase for weekends away, so backpack can sit out of the way. Going to photocopy and laminate critical documents (but what is critical??).
to add to what dippy said - insurance policy details, bank account details? utlities account numbers and contact numbers... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I am inordinately scared of preserving stuff by canning because I have grown up with tales of entire families being wiped out by botulin! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

If you follow modern rules you will be fine. I use hot water bath canning for things that are high acid and pressure canning for everything else. Look at American sites for help. Many people here still use older methods but I have had failures with these in the past and nowadays I can not afford to fail so use the American methods. Food keeps for years like this in the dark.0 -
I have to admit being like Caterina being scared to preserve as don't trust myself to get it right, although thanks to grandma247 I have started to store dehydrated fruit( bananas so far) in jars rather than freezer. Daft I know but I just don't have the confidence for doing canning even though I would love to. Even simple things like jam making have me worried I am not doing something right, totally daft have made jam and it was fine a year later, but I know I better give myself a kick and get over this fear.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Pah When I have made my jam I go one step further and BWB it and I have some that is three years old and still fine. They do sometimes loose a bit of quality but they are safe to eat.0
