You can't legally hunt anything with a cross bow in the UK. Just now. Sorrry lol
This is true, bow hunting of any kind in illegal. But praticing with targets, to be ready if SHTF, would be a good idea.
A low-tech and silent projectile weapon which has been around since the dawn of time is the thowing stick. If it got so grim that hunting woodpigeons on the lottie was a necessity, I'd give it a go. Mark you, I expect bad news like a murderous GQ would pass among the beggars and my lottie would quickly become a no-fly zone. I expect you'd have to finish off the birdie with a wringing of the neck.
Pigeons are fast and easy to dress barehanded and any interested parties can pm me for destructions. Just don't pluck the darned things, it's a terrible mess and waste of time.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

killing wood pigeons for food fine..... but wouldnt it be dangerous to shoot and eat ordinary pigeons, full of disease etc ? and for shooting wildlife isnt it humane to make sure the weapon is powerful enough to take the animal out in one go?0

Pigeons in general can carry TB as well as other nasties - when we kept hawks we didn't let them eat pigeon if we could help it.
And yes, it's easy to talk about hunting with crossbows post-SHTF... but it's pretty horrible in reality if you can't guarantee a clean kill.0
