Elaine I think you'd find somebody else who needed help and in helping them. would help yourself. There's always somebody who is struggling. "No man is an island" and all that..
  • ELAINE it's not a depressing post, it's addressing a real possibility that perhaps none of us had thought about. It would be so very hard to deal with if all our dear ones were to be lost, it would be very hard to continue to function in that event, but, I think we all have a will to live, a zest to live, an inner drive that would still be there and we wouldn't be the only ones in that situation. I think Mar is right, there would be shared similarities with most other folks who were left and we would all support and help each other to go on with life, help each other to live in fact. Perhaps to even make new lives, it's an unknown but not without hope or possibilities, Cheers Lyn xxx.

:) Today I have been busy in what is apparently called the Real World, which involved venturing into a Hasda. Bygorry, these family-sized supermarkets are truly scary places, are they not? Too many choices for this simple soul.

I found little of note expect that various types of canned beans of the KTC brand are 3 for £1 and I am road-testing some borlotti beans because they're pretty. Seems a pretty good deal to me.

They also have dried peas in 250g cartons, which you soak for 12 hours before cooking. Anyone tried such things and how did you rate them?

I hit up a chazza and came away with 3 huge pillar candles at £1 each so pretty pleased with that, then toddled myself off to the allotment for several hours to toil with hoe and rake. I even *blush* dibbled.

I have sowed the flowerbed and have re-raked the tattie baulks. Soil is now warm enough for the annual weeds to have just started to germinate in the past few days so got the onion sets in and put the broad beans on to soak. Plan to prep the soil for the BBs tomorrow if weather permits and either sow them then, or on Monday evening.

Riigggghhhht, you gardeners, it's heads down to the grindstone and off we go on another 4 month spell of me being MIA.

:T Oh, and I found a slug today, the first one seen since last autumn. It was all cut up over meeting me, mwahhaha.

Hi, can I join your group?

Been prepping for a couple of months now, not been able to do much due to limited finances, but slowly building up stores. :j
Found this part of the forum about a week ago, and been lurking since.
Mainly preparing for economic colapse and severe weather disruption. Just recently had disruption from the snow, lost power in the town I live in for half the day, but it caused enough panic to make me glad for the few bits I had. :)

    :D Course you can, Malcolm.

You've had a horrible spell of weather in Wales recently and I'm sure the experience will cause some non-preppers to start thinking about what they'll have in place for the next time.

Most of my preps are sourced from the charity shops and the discount stores. I keep a mental wishlist and cruise around with my prepper-spex on. It's amazing what you can do for a pittance if you apply yourself.

Good luck and tell us all about it.

Thank You for your welcome. I must admit whilst it's tough I do enjoy trying to source useful items cheaply. Poundland and the car boots are my favourite, but do look in charity shops though find they've gotten a more expensive in recent months.

Yes we did have quite bad weather, made for some stunning photos though.

Just had a great surprise in the past hour though. My dad knows I prep and happily supports it. As today is my 21st he's only gone and brought me a crossbow!!!:D:D:D
So chuffed right now, can't wait to shot it off tomorrow. :)

Interesting discussions today. I see most developments through the prism of peak oil and climate change. And by that I don't mean man made global warming. If Piers Corbyn is right, we'll all be glad if anything we have done as a species mitigates the effect of a new mini Ice Age

And I don't think any political and social organisation can do anything about either of those. But trying to increase one's personal resilience, and build up useful skills for a lower energy world might help and can't hurt.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Welcome to the club rebeccalb know what you mean we had that to over the winter back in 2010 we had days of no power. Thats, why I refuse to have an electric hob.no matter what happens at least we would have gas for a few days.
Thats what I prep for severe weather.and food prices.

I recently became involved with a socialist group and some of them were toss pots so I walked away. A friend of mine lives in a self Sufficient community and I know of a few more in the uk so I would go straight to them. They have the same values as I do. The only reason we havent joined one is the lack of employment surrounding them.

We had lovely day out today and gas a lovely walk on the beach.
Checked out the nw sea defenses in redcar and, there are no where near as I was told. You can see the ocean and to be honest makes out look a lot nicer. Of and there a lot more disabled ramps and the life boat jetty had been renewed. No pier has been built though, so pops it could b worth a visit.

Sorry about my spelling on my phone and it's a nightmare.
