D and DD
Hope your Dad will be feeling better soon and gets any treatment he needs to help.
I agree with BessieBooBoo - things like a nice cup of tea and dd's having made a cake, book by favourite author, a recipe turning out well out of odds and ends. one of dds getting good news or just enjoying spending family time with a board game or a trip out in car with home made rolls as picnic can have me :j
Haven't dared look at news yet as between the political point scoring over a politician's death and Kim ping whatsit in North Korea not to mention the flu or odd virus in China - I need to have several more cups of tea or coffee to face it.
DD is trying out a recipe downstairs for a veg soup so have put the ingredients for a rapid loaf in breadmaker to be ready about 12.30ish.
Tip for anyone else who finds the BM does not work properly in a freezing kitchen - I have started rinsing out the inner pan with boiling water then drying it quickly and adding ingredients before it cools right down again. So far it seems to help. S**s Law it won't work now I have mentioned it and lunch time loaf will resemble a brick.:o
Going with DH to hospital this afternoon for results of third biopsy on warty thing on his head and then two dds are out for evening meal so will only be cooking for three of us tonight.
Hugs to all and going to have a quick look at the news in case the **** really has hit the fan."This site is addictive!"

I had an epiphany several years ago when I realised that I could choose for myself what was "enough". Otherwise you can go on striving and achieving and you will never feel you have enough. There is always more you could have or want. Once I made a choice, everything slotted into place much more easily. My career path was geared to onwards and upwards, because that was what most people in my field were doing, but I realised I could just move sideways and not keep aiming higher.
Some people in the organisation (young and ambitious colleagues for the most part) may have felt pitying contempt for me. I see them now, hitting rough patches, job loss, or just trying to come to terms with stalled careers and feel so thankful for myself and sorry for them. Apart from one......(mean Maryb, but she caused me a lot of grief) Even where that particular person is concerned , I just think, Well, I've been happily married for 25 years, I have two precious girls who are good as they are clever and as kind as they are beautiful, our mortgage is paid off and we have enough to live in comfort if not extravagance - remind me again, what's your definition of success? It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

When Mrs Thatcher was PM I was so poor I can't think now how I managed to keep my children from starvation. My husband at that time (have since remarried) was unemployed for 4 long hard years. Despite this I am sickened to see ;-

Hi everyone, I have not had time to come and visit and say hello...two weeks of hell and chaos springs to mind. The builder arrived only to declare the problem with the plaster was worse than we thought (hmmm) and he needed more work to fix it. So here we are, it's taken him two weeks to sort it out, he has done a good job but I wish we had paid by the whole job instead of the hourly rate we offered him.
Now he has left, I have all the cleaning up to do. He did clean most of the mess up but plaster and dust is a pig to remove off marble floors and windows! While he has been busy doing the plastering it has been impossible to clean up properly anywhere in the house, so I am going to spring clean the whole lot ,starting tomorrow.
We have made the decision that it is time to move on from Greece so I have been submitting my resume to all and sundry. I had an amazing job offered to me in China, but I turned it down due to the fears over Korea and the Bird flu outbreak in the city I was going to.
I have since applied for a vacancy in Turkey and everything is looking good, so fingers crossed for me everyone! I was given fabulous references by my current boss and previous employers so I am very pleased about that. I am not going to say what the job is or who for, in case I jinx my good luck at hearing about it. Let's just say if I got it I would go out and celebrate as it is very close to being my dream job!
We have decided that we are putting this house on the market to sell it. It is too big for us now and costs a fortune to maintain to a high standard. If it does not sell this year then we will keep it as a holiday home and investment property.
My shoulder and arm are much better thanks to the three sessions of deep acupuncture I had. I have all the strength and flexibility back in it which is what I was most concerned about.
We have had two weeks of terrible red dust blowing up from the African desert in the wind. It makes your eyes sore, throat dry and gives you a wheezy cough. The sun is out properly today for the first time in two weeks so hopefully it's starting to clear now.
Love to all, I have really missed you.....off to catch up on the reading...I may be some time LOL“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

Turning up is the best way, because often, our older lot hate to admit they need help (been there myself too!).
You'll probably not get thanked, but, the 'Oh well, since your here, you could do this, that and the other', while they rest up.
Secretly, your mum will be relieved....
Hope your dad gets sorted, and gets better, maybe the warmer weather coming will help him
Love and hugs

Glad you're back, Mrs L! And Daz, belated condolences for Teagan - big dogs don't live as long as the littlies, she lived to a ripe old age for a mastiff - but I know that's not much comfort right now.
I've just discovered that if you paint an 8in by 4in patch of iodine on your stomach it has nearly the same effect as taking iodine tablets:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller37.1.html
Off to the chemists in the morning, to see if I can get the kind of iodine you paint on!
Pineapple, any links you have would be most welcome (but not the Canadian spam!)
Thanks for that info, we always have bottles of iodine in as they are great for cuts and bruises/ingrowing toilnails, animal injuries etc etc. Great to know if the worst happens there might be further use.

D&DD hope you find you can sort your Dad out when you get there. Hugs xx
2tonsils, congratulations on the job, hope everything goes well for you both and you manage to get everything in place. Dont blame you for moving, it must have been a worry.
Off to visit Mum tonight, first time after her op. My brother keeps asking what shopping she needs and cannot believe that she prepped completely and has everything she needs for upto a month. All he has had to get her is bread and the Sunday papers - I am so proud of her. She even bought paperbacks to read and though she is a little stir crazy she is doing well.
DD is comfy in her new house and today I saw she has started her pantry. She didnt have any space before but now she has a few extra tins of beans and such and Im really pleased as it now means I dont have to feed both houses if TSHTF.Clearing the junk to travel light
