Is there anything specific that anybody can think of, that we should maybe take care of re the kim ping pong situation - as D3 so aptly puts it0

Polly how awful! Can you put up a sensor light?
Spent the weekend in garden making and planting up an apothecary garden of medicinal herb, garden centre was doing 8 pots of herbs for £10!
Been charity shopping today and got a skirt and top so happy.
Thought I would check how I was for candles so looked in garage - over 300 tea lights (ikea), and about 50 pillar types lol.
Also got some lovely pillar candles last week at Cargo for half price, which come in useful airtight storage jars.
We have, and an alarm. This is the third time it has happened but this time they didn't get in. We are now enquiring about CCTV, our friends have it after their car was stolen.
Thankfully my supplies are all safe;)

However it is worth noting that according to some opinions, Korea may be able to launch an EMP attack on US. What effects US could have repurcussions for us. It can also reach UK if directed this way. I actually don't believe anything major will happen but it can't harm to have some extra cash and supplies. As for an out and out nuclear conflagration, I can't believe any country would be so stupid. Because what goes around comes around. But time will tell.

I read somewhere he was obsessed with the number 9 so 9 April might be a significant date.
No specific preps really. Hard to foresee what the implications might be (other than NK no longer being there after the Yanks have finished with it). Mayhem in the global financial markets probably. Could that be a pretext for introducing all sorts of capital controls/limits on cash withdrawals? No harm to have a week's cash on hand and keep the car topped up.
longer term - disruption to global trade, especially if China wades in. So all the things we import from the Far East might get harder to get hold of. Most of us don't buy stuff just for the sake of it but if you were thinking of getting something in the near future, think about how essential it is
Worst case scenario for the West to my mind is that China wades in on the side of NK but not in a conventional military way. Think mega hacking attacks/cyber warfare even an EMP to take out essential systems. Very high concentration of geeks in that part of the world. Mind you South Korea and Japan together with Silicon Valley and Silicon Fen could probably outgeek them given time
If you rely on internet banking you might get a sign saying We are experiencing technical difficulties. Another reason to have a modest amount of cash on hand. I would also recommend getting up to date statements so you know where you should stand if records are unreliable/unobtainableIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

My big fear is low-grade nuclear fall-out - as in, missile despatched by Kim P-P, but blown up in mid-air by someone else, and dust then being carried in higher levels of atmosphere before descending - and it could end up anywhere? I'm old enough to remember Chernobyl, and not being able to drink milk from certain cows, it all had to be poured down the drain because it was radioactive. Maybe I'm being an idiot, and nothing would get to us from that far away. I'd be happy for someone to prove it's impossible.
Not sure where you'd get iodine tablets from, but you can buy something called Lugol's solution that's basically iodine in liquid form. Not sure how long you have to take iodine tablets for, either. (At school we only had that useless "duck and take cover" advice that suggested if we were caught out in the open during a nuclear attack, we lie down and pull our jackets over our head... It's stayed with me, for its sheer uselessness!)0 -
I can remember the Chernobyl fallout over eastern Scotland where I was living at the time. Advisories not to go out in the rain and not to drink the milk. And mountain grazed sheep were unsaleable for years, weren't they?
I'd suggest having some UHT by you, there's stuff on shelf with BB dated in Sept right now. Best price I've found is the store wot Mums go to (55p for 1 litre). Co-incidentally, I've just come from there with 1 litre to add to the stash, but can't claim in prescience.
I was thinking of my uncle recently. He's 83 and very poorly now. He was on his national service and ended up out in the Korean War. He came back with malaria which flared up intermittantly thoughout his life and triggered mental problems where he had flashbacks to the war and ended up talking to people who weren't there any more. Bliddy stupid place for an English farmboy to end up.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Popperwell wrote: »Quite looking forward to the trip. The idea popped into my head from nowhere. Once there I don't have to do much walking and I am happy to watch the sea for hours. I understand that Redcar has been/is being revamped.
Anyone been to Saltburn on here, that's another favourite and not as busy...it has a cliff face lift to help you get to beach level and a pier.
I haven't been to redcar since the renovations, apparently they have huge sea defenses built up so you can't see the beach/ ocean. A taxi driver told there are steps down to the beach though.
We love Saltburn though, its brill, we spend hours there :-) oh and the lift is still there too. The views from the pier are amazing.
Weatherwise its blooming cold again, gutted somevflowers have frozen and wilted overnight. It was snowing agsin earlier:(. I'm not worried about nk its just a new leader showing off and being bolshy. To be honest I'm more concerned about the state of the crops and they have been damaged by the weather.0 -
I wasn't wishing to worry anyone with my question I think really if god forbid anything happened it would all take place far from our shores I was thinking more along the lines of a supply disruption and as others have mentioned cashpoint and fuel disruptions,of course all only likely if something untold happens but hey thats what we all prep for isn't it?:D
So far I have
filled the car up
obtained a little extra cash
have water carriers/steri solutions to hand rather than under a heap of other useful stuff
Double checked supplies in case of a brief interuption (very similar to my bad weather last minute preps)longlife milk etc.
