  • Personally, I'd get a pocket sized sharpening steel.

    Something like this

Daz so sorry to hear the sad news about Teagan :(

Paul I watched a really cool vid somewhere where the fella used an old tv as a supersized fresnel lens it melted literally everything!

All this Aquaponics stuff sounds very interesting please everyone who's having a go keep us updated with your experiments :D

Ali have you looked on Ebay? I like the old nutbrown icing thing (all metal) and picked up a couple of them dirt cheap on there.
I know Tala made a biscuit one (1950's ish) all metal as I have one and its very similar to the lidl one but you push it rather than it being a ratchet gun..will have a look in a mo to see if the parts will interchange

eta sorry Ali The tube is the right size but the thread is slightly different..

Pineapple I find mens stuff much more comfy I hate fitted clothes and I'm lanky as well and always end up buying mens coats and jumpers.I'm only skinny but a womans jacket in a size 20 only just covers my elbows lol I'm only a size 12! So I buy a mens large and it fits perfect usually.

Daz sorry to hear about your dog :(

I got my eldest (he's 12) a metal fire lighter from a local army surplus store, think it was £2.50. He's quite into bush craft just like his father.

We still have a binns it's quite popular and, it's a big feature in the centre of town.

Still there then :) been in that one a few times in the past...wonder how it has changed. Last time I was there we were in the cafe downstairs and a local tv news presenter was at the next table(Pam Royal)

That's years ago, bet that cafe has disappeared long since. Makes me realise how long it is since I last visited the town. I can't even think how I would even be there alone...as such trips were usually with Mum or Dad.

Glorious sunshine today, almost too bright for me as I had my second cataract op on Friday and I now realise it was like having sunglasses on a lot of the time. Everything is so bright and vivid!

Making a big effort this year on the growing front as I think this awful spring will result in big price increases in food costs. I've always grown runner beans but never bothered to freeze them as I always had tons to use up. I think I will try and stock the freezer this summer and grow some broccoli and cabbages to have some fresh veg in autumn. I've only really done summer veg up til now plus some onions and potatoes.

This may seem obvious to anyone who does garden on a regular basis but why do people pot on seedlings before planting out or transplant seedlings raised in a seed bed? Does it achieve anything that you couldn't do just by thinning out?
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

BTW Grey Queen, meant to say, Lidl seem to have a special offer on big candles at the moment. Can't really visualise whether they are good size for the price without seeing them but thought I'd mention
