    Afternoon preppers,lurkers and newbies :D
Sat here twiddling me thumbs, had MrT booked for delivery between 10 and 11 and its still not here and they don't know why they can't raise the store or the driver hope he's ok..

Pinkthrift glad to be of help :D I agree its handy to get a decent loaf by hand I have a panny too but rarely use it now as we prefer the handmade sacrilege I know!! ;)

Mar I dug out our back garden as you know by hand and we used buckets to cart the soil with as we had built a raised bed round the side and couldn't get a wheelbarrow thru :o If you're struggling with the weight maybe employ a trusty trolley?? It takes a while but if you set yourself a target maybe 5 buckets a day it'll soon make a difference.(Or invite your boy for tea lol *ulterior motive*)

    Get some potassium Permanganate instead.

Takes up less space, has a far greater shelf life, and has more uses.

ooh please tell me more Bob is that the stuff we used to have in chemistry that was purple and did exciting things on a bunsen burner?:rotfl:

I can remember the paraffin heater too. Many many years ago when I was a very small child:) I heard a loud bang in the kitchen. Lo and behold my mother had stored a few bottles of lemonade on top of the high cupboard and the heater was directly under it:) and you can quess the rest. I did not like the smell of the paraffin either.

Forgot to say, it has been lovely weather wise here. Yesterday was so warm and it really lifted up our spirits:):)
My seeds have arrived this morning, happy days, and I am going to sort them out and put them into little pots on the windowsill. The little birds are flying in and out of the garden too. I love to watch them, and hear them singing their wee hearts out. These are little pleasures which cheer the heart and give you a purpose on getting up in the mornings. Hope you all enjoy the weekend. I got an email today that 400,000 people have signed the petition in just 4 days(about I.D.S ) I read a lot of the comments and oh boy the people are so very very angry, and who can blame them!!!

There is a list but I don't remember where it is...

Basically think of all the things you like to eat and would regularly and think of the non food items too. Think of things that can be eaten without being cooked...
Some good advice there. The first part is what I used to struggle with. The usual advice is store what you eat and eat what you store. But in the beginning I went overboard buying stuff like tinned fruit and soup. I don't much like tinned food and I don't think it's particularly healthy either. For me it would only be SHTF food. But so far we haven't had a SHTF and I couldn't face this by now well out of date food - so I ended up throwing it. These days I only buy in tins what I normally get in tins - basically tinned toms and tinned fish (and corned beef at a push). If however nukes start flying between North Korea and whoever, I'll go straight out and load up with anything in a can! :rotfl:
The other thing I did wrong initially was buy a ton of stuff that needed a lot of energy for cooking. So now I have things like semolina in the mix - which makes a near instant pudding. :)

Because I don't like the flavour of most tinned food and I don't think it is good for you. I simply couldn't bring myself it eat it. It had consequently got well past it's use by date and though I know you can usually go beyond the date on the tin - I'm not comfortable going beyond a certain margin. Especially when I don't like it to begin with!
