I got out of, shall we say, certain banks a year or so ago. Including the mortgage and a miserable ISA. Have a little bit left - still at risk but what isn't? At least I am not a big saver - according to Zero Hedge some people in Cyprus could actually end up being cleaned out. It does worry me though, that if I sell the house this year and have a briefly inflated account before buying another, I might get the timing wrong.
Note this article references The Slog - which imo is up there as a credible free thinking opinion.

For me, it has taken over from Max Keiser.
My nearest cash machine ran out of money a couple of days back. Cue Pineapple in twitchy mode! But it turned out to be nothing more sinister than the usual pre bank holiday rush.
As for whether anything would be crashed this weekend, that would be too obvious wouldn't it?
Could be double bluff I suppose.
A bit like this latest threat from N Korea.
    Or not.

Back online after having to call out the technician and bribe him to fix my wifi immediately lol we got zapped by the universal hacker in Greece and most of Europe...so no internet. It made me wonder if ''they'' did it deliberately to stop us all striking and protesting at all the crap the governments are inflicting on us.

After a week of authority figures here making life more difficult than it needs to be and the shock of even more ''surprise'' taxes being inflicted on us, enough is enough. I think Greece may well be on the list of who is next to get their deposits seized...... I have signed up for a new Uni course online that will increase my wages when I find a job. I am now registered at employment agencies in several countries...none of them in Europe. Enough is enough...

Since we will not be able to sell the house as everyone is too scared to buy, we will either find a long term tenant or close it up for most of the year till we visit for holidays. Getting the repairs and decorating finished and gradually clearing all stuff we don't need to keep as essentials.

The good news is that spring seems to have arrived and its now 24 degrees and sunny....thank God....I could not face one more day with torrential rain here....

Happy Easter to one and all. It's not Greek Easter till the start of May but then I can have two lots of chocolate eggs to celebrate both events.

I find it helps to think of the many, globally, who are 10 times worse off than me and who would swap places in a heartbeat. I never forgot the sight of a smart business man in the commercial district of Kampala. He had the suit, the briefcase... And he had no legs - he was wheeling himself along on a piece of wood on wheels. Somehow this was more shocking than the street kids encountered every day. Nor have I ever forgotten the words of our urbane Ugandan accountant. He was talking of the lack of safety nets for people without an income etc. 'One might easily die' he said - in a very matter of fact manner.
Plus even if we are not big hitters globally, we can make a difference in little ways. Even if it's just something like giving way in the checkout queue for the person behind you with only a couple of items. Imo it creates a ripple effect. :T
  • Morning all, JAYNEC I don't think cayenne pepper is ground seeds, I'm sure it is cayenne peppers dried and the dry flesh of the pepper then deseeded and ground, only think of the colour it is?

I watched about 15 minutes of Revolution last night before getting bored and watching something else, it might be my age but it was like a cross between the new Survivors series and custers last stand. I didn't understand at all why the electricity went away, did I miss something early on? and why were the baddies dressed in Cavalry Uniforms like they were cowboys, did costumes get re used? I shall leave the other episodes to those of you who enjoyed it, if I'm going to watch disaster TV I like it to at least have a tiny element of reality in it.

He Who Knows has been extending our existing veg beds in the garden and digging and wheelhoeing them over ready for planting should it ever get warm enough this year, we are awaiting the arrival of some new Autumn Fruiting Raspberry canes and a couple of Thornless Loganberries to add to our other fruit bushes. I had been intending to get some more chickens but I'm sure I saw an article saying that the legalities for keeping back yard hens had been changed and that even 2 would be regarded as a commercial flock and subject to the DEFRA rules and regulations applicable to farmed birds, does anyone actually know how things stand before we go ahead and get some?

The BBC news this morning said that high street shops were really finding that folks are not out and spending, and they haven't sold much of the spring ranges and said sales were imminent, so DD1 and I are going into town to see if they have started and if there are any bargains to be had, have a good day everyone and for heavens sake stay WARM if you can, Cheers Lyn xxx.

BB So sorry to hear the bad news about your niece, hoping that something can be done to help her and hoping for a happy outcome, Lyn x.

2tonsils - have you any idea, from your sources, when the cold snap is due to end (more so for the Northern Ireland region) and if there's any more snow due?

More for information purposes - appreciated....

Hi I have just been catching up and found this , which was posted while my internet was off......the signs are that it will last well into April. There is a huge storm in the Atlantic that they are watching as well.....its massive but they hope it will lose power before it gets near to the UK in a week or so....it could mean blizzards if it hits.....

  • Hi all
I managed to get another redcurrant and blackcurrant bush reduced yetserday, they are standard bushes so I will be able to keep them nearer the back door in pots rather than trying to find an inch of space beside the other fruit bushes:o.
MrsL i haven't heard anything about changes to chicken keeping rules, but will have a look around to see if they have changed the goal posts.
I think i need to get some more seeds from the real seeds people, so we can keep the seeds for next year. OH dug over the veg beds yesterday (while i was having a very important coffee with my friend in the garden centre :D) and they are looking pretty good. So hope to get some seeds planted in trays today or tomorrow. It will make me feel soooo much better to have started some off.
Take care and hugs to all

Mrs LW I don't have chickens :( but THIS (updated 28/3/2013) appears to indicate that registering a flock below 50 birds is still voluntary rather than mandatory.

I did find an article in the DM that said that a report by the RVC - Royal Veterinary College - (possibly a few rugged ones amongst them), had called for legislation to be tightened in light of increased domestic chicken keeping, but it would appear that the law is unchanged. This article was Nov. 2012.

But I'll bow to anyone who actually keeps chickens who knows different (and will amend this post if necessary).
