It's all true 'little things please little minds!'. We were passing a camping shop and bought a wind-up lamp which was in the sale. Box said one minute winding will give 20 minutes of light. It broad daylight and yes, we wound it up for 1 minute and it's still on. Thats an hour and a half later, we are so impressed! And do you know what? we are going to do it all again when it gets dark! just because we can :rotfl: ....shaking head at small life and easy pleased!
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”

In terms of human waste, in the short term bucket of wood shavings then the compost heap. In the long term - "humanure", tree bogs, back to the privy...

This particular guy had a tunnel some 20ft underground! It was a pretty sophisticated place to live if one had to but there didn't seem to be any provision for waste.

In a normal situation wood shavings, cat litter, even a soil toilet would do.

I'd say mine are pretty much the same tbh in the sense it is storage of necessary consumables - either way I am prepping to be stuck in the house for a length of time altho I would expect to be stuck in for less time in winter than in a SHFT scenario.

In fact my winter preps are nothing compared to my SHTF preps in terms of quantity.

Altho I doubt winter brings a necessity for barbed wire and weaponry :rotfl:

Most of it overlaps re storage of food, water, candles/lantern, extra bedding and warm clothes and some emergency cooking facilities. Also for medicine and a first aid kit.

The extra stuff for zombie attack is mostly about having provision for a toilet and some long term books and skills, also a plan for alternate living arrangements if needed and some secondary transport. None of this is particularly expensive or requires much effort on my part though, I've got a ton of camping gear, we've got bikes, a lot of survivalist skills are also hobby ones.
