I twisted my knee on Thurday and am hobbling about. I daren't step outdoors so am very glad we have plenty of supplies.

Just been looking at the weather out in Buxton-www.buxtonweather.co.uk. It looks awful.

Dubbin is good stuff yes. If your feet, head and throat are warm then you are warm, that's important. And you'll get lamps on amazon or ebay Frog.
  • About a foot of snow here, and very cold. Was out clearing the path and chatting to a neighbour, who accused me of scaremongering:eek:. We were talking about the weather (of course, and heating) I had mentioned the comments on the news last night, about UK only having gas supplies for 36 hrs, and also the threat of rolling blackouts in 2015, due to power stations being decommissioned. I was only repeating what was broadast nationally, not walking about with a placard.:(

Still, I am warm, dry got plenty to keep me busy, and I dont have to go out for anything. I am going to make a list of a few more things to buy. I am sure more people will start buying windup & solar equipment, so I might as well before the prices go up.

    Stay warm

    From BBC Scotland-

"Residents of Arran have been warned that they may be without power for up to three days.
The island's blackout followed heavy snowfalls in parts of Scotland which resulted in dozens of schools being closed.
Many roads have been blocked, with drivers in Dumfries and Galloway advised not to travel.
By late on Friday, power companies said a total of 14,000 customers in Scotland were left without power.
In Argyll, 10,000 households have been affected, as was Bute, with more cut off in south west Scotland.
Because of the likely duration of the power cut on Arran, Scottish Hydro have sent a portable generator to the island.
It will allow the Auchrannie Hotel in Brodick to be set up as an emergency soup kitchen and first aid centre."

Not sure if it has been mentioned but you can buy a ' power invertor ' to use in the car.

Basically it plugs into your cigarette lighter socket and you plug a 3 pinned electrical item into it.

So you could sit and use your laptop/netbook in the car, connect your dongle/android phone to the laptop and both would be charged/used via the invertor.

Suppose you could use it to boil a kettle etc depending on the wattage of the kettle and the invertor.

Or you could buy one of these below.
