Just been listening to Max Keiser who rather oddly, is not dealing with the Cyprus situation in any real depth - given that this is pretty major.. But wait, no, maybe it's not odd. Let's not forget his paymasters are Russian. I expect he is having to tread carefully
.
Meanwhile a great analysis here

Pops, zip your coat up (not with you in it :rotfl:) and put it on the table rub up and down on the teeth with a pencil lots of time which will help it zip better. Then test it out. you may not need to replace it quite yet. hope it works.
we are staying tucked up here for the day. No snow on the ground but its swirling round and extremely cold. The garden is full of hungry birds including my precious little robin who is all fluffed up and un-necessary - he must be very cold, so have put out a dish of robin food for him.
Hope everyone keeps safe and warm today xClearing the junk to travel light

Afternoon all.
I've been listening to the weather (and looking at in online) and it's a shocker. Bitter here but hardly any snow, have been out and about this morning. City centre very light on shoppers and some stallholders were packing up by midmorning, it was that bitter. Nasty stingy little bits of snow swirling around.
Agree with the observation others made that a lot of people aren't suitably dressed. If you're a teen or an adult, fair enough; you dress yourself and can make your own damnfool mistakes. If you're a parent and you have a babe or a tot out in this and they're not properly clad, I'm unhappy. About 50% of the people I saw out in subzero temps today were hatless and gloveless.
Trapper hat has been earning it's keep again and I was oot and aboot on prepperish business, getting in a stash of tealights (100 for £2 at Wilk0 was the best deal I found). I have one alight to see if "approx 3.5 hours " is a fair statement on the packet or if it's a durdy rotten lie. Have just passed the 2.5 hour threshold and she's still a-burning.
I can also report that if you empty a tin of soup into a FB tin and put it on your platewarmer over a single tealight it goes from actively cold to merely tepid in 2 hours. Epic fail on that, then.......:rotfl:The purpose was mainly to see how long a tealight lasted but I thought I'd just satisfy my curiousity whilst I was at it. Lotsa tealights like Mar said, nine wasn't it?
I have wandered out of The Land of the Poond with two of their little tealight lanterns, the white ones. Loading them is fiddly (you unscrew the tealight holder it from underneath) but I'm intending them to be backups to the three proper candle-lanterns, the ones with little doors.
Haven't had any heating on today as am cutting about doing housework ('scuse my Klatchian) and playing online. Just waiting for the floorpolish to dry in the hall.
 I found a giant spider in the hall. It didn't look 100% and turned out to be dead when I nudged it. Wouldn't like to have met something that size on a dark night. Dunno what the resident covey of pod spiders are doing as they normally cannibalise other spider species and keep my flatlet a pod-only zone. In return, I don't suck them up the vac and only deal with their webs when they're embarrassingly obvious.
Been giving further consideration to paraffin lamps and have decided not to because of the smallness of this flat and the risk of having poor air quality. Just wish I could find a decent windup lantern. Had one of those biggies from M Warehouse and it was pants and went back the next day.
Take care of yourselves in the snowy areas and keep eating the chocolate and sweeties. It's officially sanctioned in times of harsh weather. I got some golden syrup cake in just in case of emergencies.

I'm not keen on paraffin, it honks. Plus the price will only go up along with everything else. Candles (not tealights) in groups of three in front of a mirror are good, I have found anyway.
Can't believe how cold it is, now we know how Russians feel! It's very odd outside - the sky is white and the hills are white and you can't see the horizon.0 -
That's a great idea, putting the candles in front of a mirror!0

You should live in a city, Mar; I can't see a horizon whatever the weather is doing. I can report that it's snowing here and at the parentals' place and that it's 0 degrees. Gonna be a cold night. Snow is starting to settle, too.
I was thinking about getting a random c.s. mirror as the only ones I have are screwed to the hall and bathroom walls. Would be nice to luck onto a tri-fold one, just a small effort, good enough to bounce the light around my sitting room.
My tealight candle did last just shy of 3.5 hours so I won't have to have them up under trade description.
Righty, the rest of the floor now needs polishing. I'm doing my hall. Not that's it's much of an area but due to the titchiness of this place, I have to do it in stages or I get stuck in one room.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I lived in a city centre once GQ - and lasted 6 months. I felt like I was being smothered. We then moved into a multi storey flat - high up - and that was much better. But I'd never move back, I like it here.
WCS I do that with candles all the time ....BUT!! never ever look into a mirror by candlelight in a dark room. It's the scariest most horrible experience ever.:eek: I'm serious btw. I cannot do it!0 -
Glad the regulars are all present and correct. We have snow forecast for all weekend. OH is painting the bathroom and I'm doing some blog stuff!
Tried to go to the gym first thing. OK just about getting up our hill. However getting down the steep slope to the gym was impossible. Its through an M&S/Council car park and no one had gritted. It was awful.
Went home in an awful mood, and OH offered to walk me to the gym! Aw, bless him. Im on a weight loss and surgery recovery plan. Had a bad cold all week and hadn't been! He knew how important it was to me!
We are felling better having our food stash, wind up lanterns and gas stove. Hopefully we'll be fine but we can cope for a while if need be.NOT a NEWBIE!
