southantrim I am of the same opinion and I so hope that the Lib/Lab/Con artists get a good kicking by the people of Eastbourne today.

I think they may have done - pretty impressed by UKIPs performance . Think that was what you'd call a good kicking...

Had a lovely sunny warm day today. Unfortunately they just spoiled it by issuing a severe weather warning for us for tomorrow night! High winds, terrible storms.....etc etc...it was expected for Monday but its arriving early. Just as well I am going out tonight instead of tomorrow night. I will no doubt be spending Saturday night mopping rain water off the tiles again......

Thanks WCS. Going back a couple of years there are photos on there of the start of the veggie plot. It's changed a bit since and is larger now. DH and DD have put a fence around it so that it's separated from the field. mmmm chocolate cake eh, hand over a bit then!:D

    :(2tonsils, I wouldn't get your hopes up for that clause;

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1985/68/section/326

Section 326 is the space standard which is used to calculate whether a home is officially overcrowded. When calculating how much priority to give housing applications, they use "units of overcrowding" - refer to the link.

The sizes of the rooms and the ages of the occupants define how many units of overcrowding there are. And thus what priority you get to be re-housed. They don't draw a minimum size definition of a bedroom which renders it a non-bedroom.

I've been talking to a benefits manager today about this (my caller was probably seeing it on FB). There is no legal definition of what a bedroom is and no minimum size for it. If the landlord says your council or HA home has three bedrooms, than that is what the LA will use to assess whether you are to be affected by the BT. They won't be measuring them.

If the landlord chooses to redefine a 3 bedroom home with two reasonable bedrooms and one titchy one as a 2 bedroom home and call the third a cupboard, then that is what will be used for the HB assessment.

For example, my one bedroom flat is defined as having "two bedspaces" meaning that there is room for a double bed (just about) and any more people in here than a couple sharing the bedroom would be overcrowding. ETA just measured my bedroom and it's 74 sq feet. Which means you can have a double bed in there touching on one wall and almost touching on two others and just about enough room to open the door without hitting the bed.

The Housing Act 1985 gives solicitors nightmares. It's heavily-modified by case law, so much so that you can have the Act in one place and the case law will take up 20+ volumes. I expect that the Welfare Reform Act 2012 may have the upper hand.

;) But it would be lovely to be proved wrong. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for that 2T - our 2nd bedroom is just under that, so hopefully we won't get charged extra.... Mind you, wouldn't put it past the PTB to make up even more taxes. Window tax? Hearth tax? Already been done. Coal/wood tax? The air you breathe tax?

Just read that rather cheerful book 'The road'; yeesh. Won't spoil it if some of you haven't read it/seen the film. Just don't approach it if you are feeling down, that's all I'm saying. Makes me want to prep hard and fast. And build a very big concrete bunker to sit in for a decade or so.

Oh. And on another topic 'Stuff to put in your BOB/EDC/BOV': don't forget dental floss. Obviously, good for your dental health if there aren't any dentists, but also:

Wrapping round a bad tooth and tying the other end to a door handle, and, well, you know the rest!
    Fishing line.
Sewing thread for clothes/tents repairs, etc.
    Snare wire?
    Clothes line.
    Tying up bags.
Setting up trip wire with e.g. on wild camping with noisy tins, etc.
    Bird scarer lines.
    Emergency sutre for wounds.
And don't forget the plastic case: useful for holding bits of tinder/char cloth, small items like needles. And they have the tiny floss cutter in them so multi-purpose.

I'm sure the peeps on here can think of more uses...

Must get on with hoarding, I mean, storing stuff. :)

    Take care all

  • Hi, I saw this link posted on another forum. (long article)

It's scary, I don't know whether to take it seriously, and if I do - what do we do about things?
At least prepping helps us feel a little more in control, but for how long?

This is an urban myth. This act has no relevance to the benefit cuts.

The discussion on the benefits forum indicates that this is what is happening; A 3 bedroom with one @37sq ft is counted as under occupied if both children are under 10. However some councils are re-defining 2 and 3 "bedroom" properties as 1 or 2 bedroom in some cases (nothing to stop the other room being a reception room). Knowsley are one that have done this at a cost of quarter of a million.

My local Council does not house young families on the upper floors of high rise blocks and has housed single people and couples in 1 and 2 bed flats and under 35s in one bedroom flats. Some are actually now highly sought after when they were really run down and hard to let. I suspect nearly all those on upper floors are underoccupied so they may be next to re-define those properties.

    Morning preppers.
The vet has asked for a urine sample (from the dog not me :D). So this morning you would have seen me chasing the collie up the garden and shoving a baking dish under her rear end.
All I am saying is you don't want to try my bread and butter pudding for a while yet..... ;)

Been there, done that with an Elkhound with Kidney failure! Vet told me to use a marg. tub because it was cheaper than him putting a catheter in! I hope your girl is doing well

wondercollie is ticked. The squirrel is back and if he ignores it, the squirrel sits and chatter at him until he has to bark at it and chase it along the fence. It's not pretty. We have a total of over 300 foot of fence the rodent runs along. Poor WC is knackered by the end of the afternoon. He then comes in and beats up his stuffed squirrel and duck.
