Very interesting topic and good posts this morning
We need a new mattress - but have you seen the price of mattresses now? I don't know if we should use savings & buy one now, or save up then then get it.
Bigmumma yes agree with you. If one wee lady in the back of beyond has her incapacity stopped then is forced to get a job mopping floors in a restaurant - then the govt can trumpet "MORE WIMMEN IN WORK!" and it's disgusting how they do it.0 -
I'v given up on plum, every victoria I'v got for myself has died, same for my Mum, but years ago I got her a Merryweather damson and we use to get 60lb of fruit a year off it, so when I saw the Czar in which is labled as plum, but is classed as a damson in the fruit book I inherited I thought have another go, so fingers crossed it's going to like it up here.£71.93/ £180.000

My bargain may be a moot point, the lady advertising it for sale hasn't replied to my second message yet
It is/was equipment to raise poultry (eggs, meat). So cheap for the equipment, but expensive to me right now, but providing I don't accidentally kill off the inhabitants I would theoretically be self sufficient in meat and eggs (rabbits and poultry)0 -
I think we have to grab a few bargains if and when we can. Its the little things rising in price that add up - well I think so - like Oh's addiction to custard creams, were 31p now 40p in a week but managed to get them at Mr T for old price so bought a few packs. If you add up all the little price hikes on your regular buys it is a lot of dosh.
As for bigger bargains like your equipment Helen, well if you have the cash to invest, will use it and it would cost much more if you bought it new then its definately a bargain.

Just a quick update as I have to prepare the house for the horrendous storms forecast for later this evening. I have just got this link to video of the tornadoes and waterspouts that hit Benidorm yesterday. They are now hitting Italy and are at the east coast of Italy so are definitely heading our way. The link is in Italian but should be okay translated. The photos speak for themselves.

Have a great weekend folks!
Greek government have just announced they are making building insurance compulsory with cover for flood, storm and earthquake...do they know something we don'? We have to be fully insured against all risks for our mortgage so it won't affect us.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
Talking about shrinking packages I bought some tea light candles in Wilkinson's this week and they have gone from lasting 4 hours to 3.5 hours and their household candles are definitely skinnier :mad:Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I'd be tempted to wait for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and see if there are good deals. If you need a new mattress now, is it so knackered that you're getting back-ache or just not resting properly? If you hang on inflation will make it effectively cost more, but if you depleted savings to the point where you couldn't handle an emergency (you have a car, I think?) you could be stuffed.
Well, that so-called jumbly was actually a table-top sale and pretty pricey but I came away with 3 new pillar candles at 50P each so can't complain too much. Well I can, but there you go.;) Have visited the Magic Greengrocer and some other c.s. haunts (2 books and 1 shirt for £1.75) and am drinking tea. Will go allotmenteering shortly.
Have been waiting for the day to warm up but it's not so will just go up there wrapped like a polar explorer and do some digging. Don't want a lottie officer on my case.

BB, the world is full of duplicity. Getchore candles in now, smells like the 1970s all over again and I ain't talking patchouli oil.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Another book to add to my list
Thanks Guys x
It struck me this morning just how reliant we are on the lecktrick; just being here wiv muvva I have the old (as in not a new-fangled) mow-bill-ay & a miniscule notelap on charge, & I try not to use the toothbrush but the dentist is after my gums with a vengeanceOver home there's even more stuff to charge--some x 2 or 3--without all the other consoles etc that seem to dominate the lives of those so inclined.
And I'm having a paddy of my own
I WANT a proper butcher.
I WANT a proper greengrocer.
I WANT a proper fishmonger, but mainly
I WANT an asian market close by, like the ones others talk about.
I'd also like services to come up with the goods they say they will, instead of hiding behind geographically inappropriate (signal for 3view  ) or not covering that area!
Or am I to pack up & find a nest in Cloud CuckooLand?

Big Mumma we're the same here - we don't have freeview, and often to get something posted here costs way more - think approved foods etc. I wouldn't mind if its courier services as I know that's a pain, changing as they have to at Glasgow for the west coast guys, but it's the same lots of times when using the mail and we pay the same as everyone else in the UK for that!!! I took someone to task for it recently, and they basically said pay up or don't buy!!! really annoying.
We do have a fantastic butchers, a green-grocers, fish-shop, iron-mongers/sell all, a small co-op and tiny petrol station tesco - but everything costs a lot more here.0 -
