Thanks grandma, just downloaded to my pc kindle - not very portable, you know, can't take the pc to bed but it works for me :D Read briefly the first few pages and it sounds like the world as we know it now never mind in days gone by.

Going to try the bicarb trick, many thanks too for that, I love my beans soft and they never really get there without bicarb.

Ds gave me a £12 off an online shop at Mr S so will be doing that on Sunday with input from DD who also wants to stock up and save herself from carrying shopping.

If I can stay put...I'm rearranging my food store in the dining room using my crates...I have an empty inbuilt wardrobe in the main bedroom that I may turn into a second pantry. It doesn't get that warm and as I don't use the CH that often I doubt food would be spoilt and I'd mainly put tined items in there/household goods.

There is room under the double bed for some spare items too.

If I don't use the spare bedroom that I have to pay BT on soon...I can even turn that into another store room and rearrange it better...I already make tea/coffee and cup a soup upstairs so I am thinking of turning that spare bedroom into a kind of room for also doing all of the above and if I put a microwave/toaster in there(I could even put a small fridge in there)and then avoid using the kitchen too often.

If I have to move and have less space as no one visits I will store extra food under the bed still or if it's a new bed use the drawers...if there is a living room of sorts I'll put shelves up or get a book case or two and put food on that and perhaps draw a curtain over it to hide what's there:pbut I don't care if I have crates of food in the room as only I will see them and again, I probably could put a shelf over the top and drape something like a table cloth over it.

If I do move I hope there will be enough room for me to use all my kitchen gadgets that I purchased over the years to make preperation of meals quicker and easy which I canot afford to buy again and I hope will last me the rest of my life(they'll probably last longer than me.:o:(:rotfl:

Some good news...it looks as though I am entitled to a free/concessionary bus pass(as long as they don't withdraw them)and might have been for over 10 years but that will help...of course they keep withdrawing bus services and restricting when they can be used. I don't mind not travelling before 9.30am but can't understand why they are stopping you using buses after 11pm(not that many run after 11pm anyhow though one I do leaves at 10.57pm so I just get under the wire.

And the good thing would be that I can go and do some food shopping at other places to the supermarket on my town but of course it doesn't mean you have any more money to spend although it does mean you are not adding the bus fare to the cost of the food or what you save on bus fare might pay for some more food.

    So there are advantages...

Morning toughies, Leeks are sturdy little blighters and are the one crop that comes good every year including the last abysmal one. We have some on the lottie and some still in the garden. They are lovely at this time of year as they stand in the ground until you need them and have that fresh taste when all the other veg have the 'stored just too long' taste.

POPS for what it's worth and I know the circumstances are different because we are both pensioners, we have just both recieved new bus passes this year and they are valid for 5 years from today. I know things can change but I assume the intention is to keep them in use that long or they would have been for a shorter duration. Cheers Lyn xxx.

    Morning preppers.
The vet has asked for a urine sample (from the dog not me :D). So this morning you would have seen me chasing the collie up the garden and shoving a baking dish under her rear end.
All I am saying is you don't want to try my bread and butter pudding for a while yet..... ;)

Care to join me in some knitting Mar?
  • No you're not being bad medear, just conserving your energy which is very sensible, I'm reliably informed that copious doses of tea and biscuits are invaluable on days like these, but you must be careful not to lift too big a mug of tea, might bring about a setback and you'd have to do it all again tomorrow!!!!!!!! Me I'm bad
bad bad bad bad bad !!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.
