Thanks Wondercollie, that's really helpful. It makes sense of what I was told will happen on the day. There are about three of us due for cataract surgery and we will all get our drops put in to dilate the eye at the same time then they will see who is "cooked" first. Charming!

Presumably getting your vision corrected as a by product of cataract surgery doesn't cause corneal thinning?
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

It's strangely calm here..the only sound is the gushing water of our water tank being emptied in case we get more rain . At the moment the storm seems to be over Mykonos so we are hoping it has missed us completely this time.

I've had soap flakes, white vinegar, Epsom salts and bicarb from there and I just noticed they sell witch hazel in bulk. I use this diluted 50:50 with water as toner and get it in little bottles which have really gone up in price. I'm working my way through the stock I laid up before the prices escalated and might get the next lot from them.
You have to watch the delivery charge though and work out the most economical amount to order.

You can make your own oil lamps from olive oil and a wick
    http://down---to---earth.blogspot.co.uk/2009/07/how-to-make-oil-lamp.html
alternatively buy a oil lamp and lamp oil.
Butterfly Brain, that link is AWESOME! Not only does it solve a potential lighting issue, it also solves two other problems:
    a) What to do with out-of-date cooking oil - ah ha, lamp oil.
    b) What to do with those little glass jars that cockles come in, and are decorative, and I hate to put them in the recycling - ah ha, the perfect size for a little oil lamp.

That's my weekend all planned out - supermarket first, for a jar of cockles, then lamp-making. I have some old cotton shirts under the kitchen sink, that I've been keeping for cleaning rags - but now they're going to be wick material instead.

Only three of you? Wow, I'd have loved a three patient day. My unit does anywhere from 12 to 72 patients a day!

The dilating drops are usually done over 10-20 minutes.

What we've noticed is that light eyes dilate faster than brown. Those icy blue grey eyes are done practically with the first set!

Nah, corneal thinning is kind of the luck of the draw in life. The only problem I've ever seen in cataract surgery is a "dropped lense" Don't worry about it. It's correctable and not going to cause permanent damange. In our patient load, it might happen once a month or roughly 1 in 700 cases (and we usually know which dr will do it).

Don't worry about having a resident due the surgery either. They are so closely supervised they make no mistakes.

:) So that's why my grey eyed Dad went thru so quick. Wonder how fast khaki green eyes like mine "cook"?:rotfl:

2tonsils those links are worrying. You really feel for those poor souls in Athens, they need a flood on top of the econonic catastrophe like they need a kick to the head.

Out of sheer curiousity, how do you get a cypress tree off a road if it landed root down? They're huge trees. I think? I'd love to see a picture of that.

You watch out for yourselves on those mountain roads.
