I'm a real evangelist for glaucoma monitoring. Apparently you don't really notice anything until up to 50% of the optic nerve cells have been destroyed - and once they're gone, they're gone.
Hands up who is a few months overdue for an eye test? (You know who you are):DNot me. I'm done every June without fail. Annual eyetest of advice of hospital consultant as my meds could possibly damage my sight.:p I have the eyeball photie as well, it's fab.

Interesting conversation...I have never been tempted to have laser eye treatment to cure my slight problem with distances as I have reached 57 without needing glasses for close up work (Perfect close up vision). I had a repair job done on my eye when a kitten scratched it deep a few years ago. 100 euros for private surgery...and 24 hour aftercare for a week. He did a great job... I wear tinted glasses at night if I am driving as I have a slight problem with contrast at night...but I would pass the Greek eye test for driving without them LOL
Might have more rain and storms on the way, it drizzled all day today and was cold but the floor is dry and the water has suddenly stopped coming in....what caused it? NO IDEA! I can only think the land could take no more rain (I know just how it feels....) and it was some kind of overflow from the land/house behind us. Anyway the man is coming tomorrow to check it out....but apparently three friends in different parts of the island have exactly the same thing!
Italy got horrific weather yesterday and today and I truly hope it isn't on its way here. I have put a link on, click on the video...all that water came in a couple of minutes. It's directly over the Ionian from us. They also had a meterorite yesterday that came in North to South and disappeared over the Ionian sea

Mount Etna is also having a major eruption at the moment.
All these things happening around me, but I was optimistic enough to buy four summer dresses this morning.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
I have been told that I can't have laser surgery to correct my sight because the lenses on my eyes are too thin and they could tear. but the treatment for diabetic retinopathy is laser treatment. My gp thinks I might have it, so I will be writing lots of questions down to ask at the hospital.
My diabetes was picked up by the optician so I would advise everyone to go for a check up regularly.
I had to go and see the orthopaedic surgeon today and he is not happy that I haven't been referred to have my hiatus hernia repaired, and that I am diabetic and my glucose is still too high. Basically I am at too high a risk for surgery until other problems are sorted first
I have to go back in August. This year has not started well health wise
Took DH out for dinner on the way back from the hospital because it is his birthday tomorrow. It was really lovely.
Mardatha, sorry to hear that you have the dreaded gallstones, I hope you getter better health care up in Scotland than we do here. My sister had them just after having her youngest son when she was 24. She was advised to drink lots of water and have cider vinegar and honey in warm water every day. It helped to make the attacks last a shorter time, but she did have to have her gall bladder out eventually
We have had snow flurries on and off all day and it is really cold, but it hasn't settled thankfully.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I've just spent 3.5 years working on an Opthamology unit. All of my doctors wear glasses. The Lasik corrective surgery is expensive and for some worth it.
The thing is it causes corneal thinning and in around 15 years or so you may be needing a corneal transplant/graft.
Cataract surgery should be painless, if you start to feel something let the doctors know. Most of ours are done with a topical set of drops to freeze the eyeball. You'll only be on the table for 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness of the cataract. It's the paperwork and dilation of the eye that takes the time.

Morning all, going to post on here while I still have electric and internet. The huge storm which hit Italy yesterday has just hit Athens, lots of areas with no power, trains or trams. Feet deep in water in some places....we are all on a severe thunderstorm warning with storm force winds coming later. The good news is that the man is on the way to look at the leak lol...
The storm is as big as America in mass and they are worried about it hitting other parts of Europe including Germany, the Ukraine and eventually the UK if it continues at the same strength. My head is splitting with the low pressure, its awful. Someone told me the sky in Athens has gone deep yellow so its not sounding good.
Will update when I can. Trying to get some video or pics of Athens.
Staying safe, best wishes to all xxxxx“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

Sadly a 23 year old girl has died in the floods..the tidal wave of water flowed over her car and people rescued her but she died of a heart attack moments later. So sad....she must have been terrified“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
