In my neck of the woods as a young teen the pantie girdle with suspender type attachments was almost de riguer .
But my mother was a 'seamstress' by trade and a lot of my childhood clothes were home made - one of the pleasanter memories is being fitted for new dresses and the lovely smell of crisp new cotton. Cotton is almost a luxury these days!0 -
Such nostalgia gives me memories, I can remember being very small and my parents used to get the bus to Rochester Market on christmas eve to buy the tree. It was always a huge adventure as we didn't often go out of the village and the hustle and bustle of the market was magical to a youngster. Mum always fell for the stall that sold you a 'Mystery Box' for very little money and that was the best part as you never knew what would be inside. The journey home seemed to take forever, and as soon as we were back indoors she would open it up. It was never anything valuable, usually a plaster cast wall plate and once a pair of cast figures of German Shepherd Dogs to stand on the mantlepiece, but to me it was the most exciting thing, isn't it odd what you remember from childhood? Anyone else remember silly things that seem to belong to a byegone age? Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Well pleased to say windup radio arrived from amazon on satuday. Looks very small, but I was really surprisd at how good it is. Doesnt take batteries, but can charge via usb on computer, has windup handle, or solar charge.
I am guessing to use solar power to charge that I need to leave it on a sunny window sill? Didnt come with any real instructions as such.
No sun here today, just bitter cold, so I will be hand winding radio up to have a play!
I think I might do a little more stocking up of supplies, after seeing we are
losing our triple A rating. I keep thinking if interest rates go down, WE will
be paying the banks to keep our money in savings accounts!

Heavy snow showers here. I want to nip up to Ikea tomorrow and look at these solar lamps. We haven't got a radio for power cuts, need to get one for the road and weather reports.0

KATIE we leave our wind up radio permanently on the windowsill and also the solar lamps. They stay charged in just daylight, it doesn't need to be sunny, it's so convenient and they are always ready for use, Hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.0
