Wow this thread always moves so fast lol.
Got our stores etc ready for possible snow, but so far its just been cold with icy rain and sleet so it may pass us by. Stay safe ev1 who gets the white stuff.

BIL is up and down and still in ICU. He had a couple of days off the ventilator and they got him out of bed, but he has relasped again and is back on sedation on the ventilator. FIL and OH had a word with the Dr yesterday when there without SIL and MIL. FIL had medical training and so asked the Dr to lay things on the line so to speak. He said BIL had died on the operating table and been resusitated and again on the ward on that first day when we were all called in to see him. He also said TBH BIL was the worst case he has ever seen and the youngest and to be prepared that he still could go at any time. He also can't see how he got this bad without seriously heavy drinking and probably some kind of drug abuse-we have no idea about this, but the Dr can't see how this can just be from the drink. The general suggestion was he had generally abused his body in a big way for many years-bad diet/drugs (both prescribed and "other") plus a shed load of booze on top.

We just can't see how he did it and still carried on his life without people realising, you would think he had to be like a wino, but he has worked everyday since 16, firstly in the forces and later in various jobs.

    We will see.

  • Alibobsy, I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds pretty bad. It's quite possible that your BIL has been knocking back the hard stuff for years, you might be amazed how much people can drink and remain functional.
I love the books on foraging and living off the land but we have a serious problem in the UK in that there just isn't enough land to go around for that hunter-gatherer type lifestyle to be sustainable in a mass SHTF situation. Still, would be good to be able to fend for ourselves in a personal no-cash-to-buy-food type disaster.
  • NUATHA I had Richard Mabeys Food for Free and also his Plants With a Purpose but sent them to another poster on the Tougher thread as I had most of the information in other books in the collection. HERBILY I have Hovel in the Hills and also Kitchen in the Hills by Elizabeth West, love them both there is a third book, Garden in the Hills but I've still got it on my to get list as I've not found it yet, they're smashing aren't they? CHEAPSKATE I can't move Hampshire any nearer to you, but if you think I might have some info in a book that you can't find out yourself I'll always take a look through the collection for you and share if I can, you are always welcome to ask, I can't guarantee to find the answer but I'll surely try for you, Cheers Lyn xxx.

CRAIGY I have a lurcher and a He Who Knows to keep me warm, oh, and the Woodburner, I think if I read books too I'd overheat, Lyn xxx.
Delurking to say, have a look on Amaz*n. Copies from 1p :)

Just a thought, but you say BIL was in the Forces...i/ any chance one of the Charities could help the family in some way & ii/ was he serving in the Gulf, or anywhere else 'dodgy'...may be worth asking some questions if the family agree, that might help with his medical history?

Seems to me we're getting closer to that happening, particularly if the bluddin Westminster Wallies get their way
You will never convince me that 'they' seriously missed the point of:-
    • why certain areas are called FLOOD Plains, & allowed building to take placethere anyway
    • allowing immigration en masse while ignoring the unemployment, homeless & housing lists we already had
    • introducing 'fat tax' in one guise or another when it would be so much easier to reduce the cost of proper food, to help the nation's waistlines
    • cutting NHS staff means less time for patient care, as well as the impact of losing other public sector
& as for cuts & welfare reforms...but hey--it doesn't matter--they've still to convince us of the reasons they think they're worth a 32% pay rise, because as they are/once were so keen to remind us..We Are All In This Together *makes interesting hand gestures toward Lunndunn Tan, while cursing vehemently & using swear words I didn't know before :p *

    I'll shut up now.

I thought I would share these interesting facts with you...

Can you imagine working for a company that only has a little more than 635 employees, but has the following Employee Statistics.

29 have been accused of spouse abuse,
7 have been arrested for fraud,
9 have been accused of writing bad cheques,
17 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses,
3 have done time for assault,
81 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit,
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges,
8 have been arrested for shoplifting,
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits,
64 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year,

And collectively, this year alone, they have cost the British tax payer £92,993,748 in expenses!

Which organisation is this? It's the 635 members of the House of
    Commons.

The same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

What a bunch of crooks we have running our country - it says it all...
And just to top all that they probably have the best 'corporate'
pension scheme in the country - whilst trying to ensure that everyone else has the worst possible !
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Not saying some MPs aren't crooks, but a lot of what you have listed are accusations, not convictions.

Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

But they also say 'no smoke without fire', but to be honiest[sp?] I wish the !!!!!!'s would take a pay freeze like the rest of the country.

My goodness is this still on the go? It's one of those urban legends that apparently originated in the US back in 1999. Since when various international permutations have materialised.
The US version is even listed in urbanlegendsonline
    http://urbanlegendsonline.com/is-it-nba-or-nfl/
It's a favourite of conspiracy sites, social media etc and has been perpetuated for donkeys years in chain spam emails (which imo are the spawn of the devil).

That said - these days it might well be an understatement! :rotfl:
