I would expect cat owners to be the toughest of the lot (though I'm not so sure about that).
A neighbour who has 5 cats never knows what she is going to encounter when she wakes up or gets home. She's had all sorts of wildlife brought through the cat flap - both dead and alive. In fact she once found a weasel underneath the sofa :eek:0 -
Yes, puss cats are quite resourceful aretn they? although THE most embarrassing cat trophy was a still steaming whole roast chicken ......bei dragged in by a yowling cat as it was burning her mouth! How we managed to avoid the neighbours with that one I do not know!Start info Dec11

For years, whilst her own old cat was still alive, my Nan was wooed by a stray black cat (she called it Blackie, imaginatively enough). Blackie obviously reckoned that the way to a pensioner's heart was to demonstrate his hunting prowess by leaving presents of prey on her back doorstep.
Blackie's gift list included all the following, most as repeat gifts; rats, mice, squirrels, moles, baby bunnies, woodpigeons, a partridge, a weasel, a male pheasant (turned out to be merely stunned, took off like Roadrunner into the garden when Nan opened the back door) and, amusingly, the thick fatty rind off someone's boiled bacon joint.
He had his evil way in the end, moved indoors when the other cat passed away and lived the life of reilly for a few years.
Now, given the hunting efficiency of some moggies, all that remains is to find a suitable training technique for the post-SHTF world, so that we can sit back and crochet whilst the puddytats bring home the (boiled) bacon.
Suggestions on a postcard please..............Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

oh GreyQueen I so love to read your posts and you always make me laugh too:) Very cold here tonight and I wish so much for Spring to come. The wee bulbs I planted a while ago are peeking out under the trees. I really miss working in the wee garden, as I know a lot of us do here.
Chin up everyone and keep warm take good care Margaret xxDo a little kindness every day.;)0 -
Thanks, margaret. Blackie was PTS (inoperable cancer) a couple of years ago and Nan hasn't got a cat at all now, not a good idea with her very unsteady on her feet. He was much loved when he was alive, very spoiled once he became a housecat.
Her bungalow is on the very edge of a village with only fields beyond, and since there hasn't been a cat around, the rats have moved into the garden and nest under the shed. She's had to have the council out a few times to bait them. Never had that when Blackie or his predecessors were on the job.
We still pull her leg about letting the pheasant get away; it was lying there apparently lifeless when she opened the door and as she stood staring at it, suddenly roused itself (musta been in shock) and took off as if its tail was on fire.
boult, glad you've seen those Welsh sheep do The Stare, I though it was just me who was being given attitude. Could be worse, I suppose, I've been dissed by poultry before now.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Just got an interesting weather update from Mark so here is the link:
http://www.markvoganweather.com/2013/02/12/same-system-which-brought-blizzard-of-2013-to-usa-will-bring-snow-to-uk-wednesday/?fb_source=pubv1
My weather amateur friends are telling me they see other storms coming the UK's way this month as well and one of them around the 20th could be a corker...but we will know more as it approaches the time. I will keep you updated.
Meanwhile Venice is flooding again (the parts that aren't normally underwater lol) and the sea water that has flooded in is freezing in the streets. We , unfortunately have storms coming from Italy from early tomorrow morning, with winds increasing to force nine and the chance of heavy snow and hailstorms....my thermals are going back on!!!!!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
