The children's book and film "The Hunger Games" is based on that very premise - a US split into regions, with no /few modern day resources except for the very priveliged few, who just happen to run the country.I wanna be in the room where it happens0

That sound shighly possible GQ, given the sheer size of America. Here, I think Scotland has far fewer problems than you lot doon south, just because we have far less people. I don't know enough about England to have any ideas but it would make for a really interesting discussion on this thread. TY for that.

GQ poses a very interesting question about how we would like to live in a SHTF situation and aftermath. I have a very sensible book that was published in 1975, it is The Survival Handbook by Michael Allaby that covers just that situation and gives practical instruction about everything from building a house to foraging for food, to spinning wool to making cloth, even to building a boat and making weaponry - it does have a very interesting last chapter about communities and how to make them, it covers subjects such as communal living, the need for leadership, education, entertainment, health, privacy, sexuality and contraception, the needs of the young and the old and is worth getting a copy of if you should chance upon one. I have seen the paperback at boot fairs and occasionally on E*ay usually for not much money, it gives you lots to think about and lots of potential solutions to the manifold problems that would attend the SHTF actually happening. Worth a look if you find it at least, Cheers Lyn xxx.
Have just had a quick look on E*ay and there are currently 4 copies of this listed if anyone is interested, Lyn x.0 -
People talking about the original Survivors series prompted me to go watch the first episode on Youtube. Amused to see a Kenwood Chef in the middle class wife's kitchen - and a VERY basic gas cooker. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Thats horrid BB, I am so sorry and it will take a little time to learn how to manage it, but you're such a sensible and competent girlie it will soon be part of everyday life for you. There is a lot of help to be had from the medical profession these days, wishing you well in dealing with it, Hugs, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Now i want to watch it!! I remember it from when I was a kid but I think I was too old to be a frightened kid and too young to be a frightened adult. I was probably a teenage "yeah, whatever" and thought that mum would sort it out if it happened!
I also remember a children's programme called "changes" about a world with no electricity. It was the first programme I ever saw in colour - on our brand new colour TV, (from Radio Rentals LOL). Ooh I've just googled, it was called "The Changes" and was on in 1975. It was adapted from some books by Peter dickinson - I wonder if they are still available?
I used to love the original series of The Survivors and used to watch every week.
But I used to watch it as pure entertainment, I never thought about it on a 'what if' basis
I'd be interested to watch it again now.
I also remember The Changes. That programme did affect me quite a lot, to the extent that, to this day, I find electricity pylons slightly sinister.

Blimey what a difficult , trying day I have had today...hope tomorrow is much better! My OH stayed in bed as his back was killing him after the acupuncture and physio yesterday. My sore thigh was still nipping me every time I stepped down or got up from a chair but otherwise felt better than yesterday thanks to the anti inflammatory I took last night. The only problem is that it seemed to stop me sleeping , it took me ages to get to sleep.
I tried to work from home but my computer could not connect to the internet. In the end I sent a text to the owner of our broadband and he fixed it in ten minutes...but then I discovered my computer was now playing up and it took me three hours to sort it out.
I lit the fire as it had gone cold in the house and we had a real bad hail storm, then torrential rain. It took me ages to get warm enough to sit and type.
I had been negotiating with an exhibition organiser and passing on info from my boss. He asked for some financial info and I told him I had no access to knowing the budget and he sent me a really rude email.....I was furious about it and sent one back saying how rude I thought he was! They don't pay me enough to take rudeness from anyone and never will! I also sent a copy of his rude letter to my boss to let her know what was going on.....
Have now calmed down, my OH recovered enough to go to an important meeting and the painkillers are working wonders on my leg. Things are improving so I am going to have a very rare glass of something strong and watch rubbish on television in front of the log fire......bliss.....
Here is a link to the latest weather.....the weekend could still go either way but it will give you an idea....European models still showing the very cold spell coming later.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
