I am easily found, just two mountains up from the airport...but a good distance from the port lol. I wouldn't recommend rowing across in this weather..its wild!
Had to drive to town to pick up prescriptions. Tried my sore leg out on the brake before I started up and it was okay so set off. Parked in the big car park in case I got in a tight parking place and leg started playing up on the accelerator...not a good idea! Went to the doctors and couldn't get up off the waiting room armchair, lol. Eventually got up and went for a walk to the bank to ease it off. Had just got money out the atm when we had a cloudburst...so went into the Chinese clothes shop to wait it out. Finally got back to the car and went shopping.
Some of the ferries sailed after the strike and before the storm so I stocked up on the things that will run out in the shops next time they strike....oooh pre-emptive prepping at its best!!!! We didn't run out of anything due to the strikes but you never know when the next crisis is coming here. (Of course we are in the middle of a huge crisis but I mean an urgent one...) We had another cloud burst and hail while I was in Lidl so spent ten minutes chatting to the check out manageress.
It eased off, but by that time a gale force wind had come out of nowhere and people were getting blown all over the car park. I gave up before cloudburst number three came and got me and drove home. Hot bowl of corned beef hash and a big coffee later I feel much happier, even though its as dark as a gothic novel outside.
I have to go and queue for about 4 hours one day next week to get my health insurance book renewed. It will take a lot of paperwork and patience to do it but it must be done. I am going to take my laptop with me and type like crazy...they usually shout you to the front if you look busy and you don''t care about waiting.....tis the psychology folks. :rotfl:“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Blimey...the met office are cottoning on to the fact you have some horrible weather on its way
Status update
By Weather Watch UK
The Met Office have issued weather warnings for all of Wales most of England (bar the far South West) and most of Scotland (bar the North West) for snow on Sunday and Monday from the "slider low".
This doesn't mean that all these areas are guaranteed snow, they are covering a large area due to uncertainties. Expect the areas covered and the severity of warnings to change as the details become clearer.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

That says a lot for the nutritional value of a cheeseburger0 -
Think I need to get some fire logs in for the wood burner0

Even for that paper...the situation is frightening, I still fear that we could see it getting much worse here...It will to a greater or lesser degree with the changes mentioned already but many do not kick in until April, then we'll see what happens.
Will those who are hurting just accept their lot with a resigned sigh and shrug of the shoulders or will there be unrest? I don't know."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

The difference is that here in Greece people have paid into the system to get nothing back Pops. There is no housing benefit, emergency funds, social security. The pensions are cut to rock bottoms (some families get only 250 euros a month to live on). There is no free medical care, dentists or prescriptions. Even if you are working and paying 400 euros a month for the national insurance you still have to pay in full for doctors, dentists and meds as the system is bankrupt. YOu cannot opt out of paying it. You also pay them year round even if you only have a job in the summer.
Many people did not get paid at all by their employers. If they don't get unemployment money they don't get anything, they have to live on what family or friends give to them. I have just added comments to the article. People all over Europe have been misled into thinking they are '''giving'' money to bail Greece out....Greece was loaned the money at incredible rates of interest (it would have been cheaper to borrow of visa card actually ) and when Greece paid back the first installment Germany made 1.3 billion in interest in one day!
Greece has not missed any payments on the loans...they can't as its taken straight out of the next payment and Greece never sees it. The government signed a paper that means if they are late paying back by even one day then Greek national heritage sites, land, buildings and oil and gas reserves all go to the Germans first then to other countries according to the amount of money they lent to Greece. Don't believe what you hear on the news and in the papers......its propoganda to bring Greece to its knees so they can seize the massive oil reserves......“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
And the Germans during ww2 took all the gold and melted it from Greece.not fair0

Its good to have your input 2T it often does come down to ulteria motives as has often been said for why the UK, Europe, America...well, the western world often gets involved otherwise they probably wouldn't.And the Germans during ww2 took all the gold and melted it from Greece.not fair
How could we forget that?
And if we really look at history its always gone on...spices, minerals, diamonds...
We may see more problems here because the help that has been given is being taken away/reduced whether one agrees with the cuts or not. Whether people agree with help given in the first place...sadly it can result in ill feelings especially on forums but everyone's case is different. We have to try and stay united and offer support and not become divided.
A problem here and perhaps in any country is the media does one of two things...ignores what is happening, misrepresents what is happening either by accident or deliberately."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

OK whinge of the day from me - I have just got back from walking the houndicus and picked up the post which comes most days after lunch. In amongst the letters was an official looking leaflet labeled in big black letters on an otherwise completely blank page WATER INFORMATION. Oh lord, I thought are they turning us off, have we a problem with contamination, surely it cannot be a hosepipe ban after all the rain. It was it turns out an advert from a firm that makes water softeners, trying to sell by scare tactics about hard water in your area!!!!! I have binned it to be recycled, but it was so official looking as a publication I wonder how many older folks will think it is mandatory, it is really naughty to try selling by methods like this. I have just checked and when I picked it up was looking at the back page, the front page has miniscule writing at the bottom saying marketing communication, it's still bad practice though. Grrrrrrrr.0
