First one that I have been sent that includes the weekend...
UK Weather Forecast
* More snow on the way *
During tonight further showers will continue across eastern coastal areas of England.
Colder air is now moving down from the North turning showers increasingly wintry, some significant accumulations likely to higher ground with 5-10 cm's falling.
To lower ground away from the immediate coast a dusting to a couple of cm's is possible.
There are further opportunities for snowfall during the next 5-6 days.
The rest of the week will be showery for some areas, falling as sleet and snow but eyes to the East as we head in to Sunday/Monday.
As we see a low pressure system off the Atlantic hit our blocked high to the East.
What will happen is the low pressure will slide slowly South Eastwards in to the near continent and will drag in some very cold air, we are keeping an eye on things as it's a developing situation.
All we can say is it's looking likely that we may see some disruptive snowfall for a time across some parts Sunday night in to Monday.
With heavy snow showers moving in off the North sea Monday/Tuesday.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

I have a very sensible book that was published in 1975, it is The Survival Handbook by Michael Allaby that covers just that situation and gives practical instruction about everything from building a house to foraging for food, to spinning wool to making cloth, even to building a boat and making weaponry.
The yellow bible was my introduction to serious prepping, I've no idea how many copies I've gone through, mainly passing them on to like minded folk. There's a few on Amazon as well as ebay. I still regard it as the best single volume general handbook.Butterfly_Brain wrote: »I have had a personal shtf day, just been diagnosed with diabetes, sugar is very high evidentlyso I have to rethink my whole food storage plan around low carb for me although the family can have whatever they like.
BB it doesn't take long to adapt your thinking and learn to adjust. I know its a big shock (my diagnosis was a couple of years ago) but I found it really wasn't as bad as I feared and there's good accessible information and support out there which can help.
Meanwhile hugs. (which are good for your health)0 -
We have got torrential rain here now and high winds. Storms expected till Sunday and snow on the hills. If I disappear from the thread it will be the internet going down. The ferries that were forced to sail today will now be cancelled again due to the weather. One of the girls just told me that almost all the supermarkets in town are just about emptied of food and other goods....great joy! No worries, I have all my prepping supplies and plenty of fuel , oil lamps and candles. Off to bed...my warm electric blanket is calling my name...... After reading predictions in the Manchester evening news about how the weather in the Uk will deteriorate in the next 30 years and listening to how the Lib Dems are helping the poor my migraine is turning into rage and Im fading fast :mad:Clearing the junk to travel light

Must have been The Day for Testing Theories If the S Does HTF Day today
We had a power cut for about 15mins around 11:30ish this morning then a real biggy lasting over an hour this evening when even the street lights were out! It affected quite a large area too; we literally live t'other side of the road from me muvva & down a bit, but we're on different lekkie 'grids' so rarely have outtages at the same time. Thankfully I was at mum's when darkness fell just on 6pm & we could see nothing but lights from bigger roads from her third storey windows
It was quite useful actually, as I found out that the grill of her gas cooker won't light with a match as I assumed it would so I need to rethink contingency plans if it turns out mine's the same  Presumably the rings & oven wouldn't light either, & I have to say it had never occured to me that I wouldn't be able to use my stove during a black-out.
I was also really glad that I had practised walking around mutha's homestead in the dark before tonightas I easily found candles in one cupboard & matches in a drawer of another. I'm quite happy to wander around but she drives me crazy by following a few minutes later, telling me to put the light on while simultaneously flicking evey switch she passes, rather like those motion sensor thingies in posh loos :rotfl:Bless her, she just doesn't seem to grasp that if I had wanted the light on, I would have done so as I passed the same ruddy switches to get to wherever I was going
It also got me thinking about how much you can realistically plan for. IF we had known there was a chance of this happening we could have had a flask of something hot on stand-by, or should all good preppers get one ready every morning...just in case?
And wellies...never been able to wear more than ankle boots, as taller ones always seem to 'catch' & rub on my calf, causing me to scratch until I bledWhile typing this bit I think I've just had a "Eureka!"; I can't wear flock-lined rubber gloves as it irritates my allergies (sneezing, wheezing & red eyeballs are not a good look when you're suposed to be cleaning) & the inside of wellies used to be coated with a kind of powder very simiar to the stuff you get in rubber gloves :j I am right, aren't I?

A glorious dry and sunny day yesterday (despite the local forecast of snow). My bumper delivery of soap flakes made it through. So far a good day today though possible snow by the weekend so I'm off for a mega shop. Yes somehow some stocks (though not essentials) are running low. Norty pineapple...
I live down a one track lane and if you meet someone head on, it's custom and courtesy for the driver closest to their end to back up. Anyhow a couple of people have form for not wanting to reverse even a few yards and I met one of them yesterday. Having travelled the length of the lane, I met her coming in on the top bend. She sat there waiting for me to reverse all the way back down and it was like a stand off at the O.K. Corral. But this lady is not for turning. It took her an age of reversing into the wall on her offside, pulling forwards, reversing into the wall... In the time it took for her to go back a few yards, I could have reversed to the moon and back (and I'm hardly the world's best). But principles is principles as they say and she will have to learn.
Not that this has anything to do with prepping. I just needed to rant! :rotfl:0 -
What do you mean? Of course reversing is prepping, you never know when you might have to reverse, ie: a tree falling down but is caught on wire's,so slowing the rate of desent[sp?] and you rant away me duck, the lady need's to learn like you said[sorry gone local calling you duck]£71.93/ £180.000

BIGMUMMA you can get fleece wellie socks these days that have a cuff to cover the rim of the wellie so that your skin didn't come into contact with it. I think they are pretty widely available in sports/country/camping shops and not tooooo expensive. If you can wear fleece without it making you itch or sore that might be a solution? Hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.0
