Pops, YTs shouldn't be worn indoors and I'm guessing others shouldn't either. YTs have coils of strong wire around a rubber lattice and others I've seen have studs in. Can't think that any of them would be other than a menace on a non-yielding surface. They're brilliant for what they're designed for; ice and snow.

Definately, I have seen several variations in use and offered for sale. I also spotted the YTs at a Goo Oootdoors reduced to £7.50 last spring (paid £13.50 for mine a couple of months before grr!) so that might be worth bearing in mind if money's too tight to mention.:)
i got some from qvc in 2010, two pairs for i think £18, i bought these specifically because they have a velcro strap that goes over the shoe, loops around the rubber on the side then closes on top, so if one of your yaktrak/icetrak thingies comes loose you don't lose them
so far we've not lost them :T
oh and a trick i've picked up for putting them on easier. when you have the shoe OFF place it on the heel first, then place the shoe between your legs (need to be sitting) with the sole facing away from you. squeeze with your legs to hold it tight then grab near the top of the traks but NOT the pull tab thingy.
the pull tab thingy on both different types of traks i've had seems to be thinner than the rest of the traks and is so hard to pull on, so i grab the sides just below it, up and over the toe in one fell swoop, it's sooooo much easier!0 -

the first pair i had had both the coils and some metal stud like grips, those i def did NOT wear inside as they tore things to bits
the ones i got from qvc just use the metal coils like the yak traks, i have worn those inside for brief moments but they are slippery on a tile floor0 -
The problem I find with Yaktrax is where you have bits of pavement that are completely clear interspersed with sheet ice. They say you shouldn't wear them on clear pavements but you can't take them off/put them on every hundred yardsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Apart from it being hazardous, contact with a hard, unrelenting surface wears them out quicker.0 -
Bbrrrrr....after what has been a glorious sunny day the sun is now going down and its going to be freezing tonight again! I woke up in the middle of the night and my arm had been outside the bed covers......it was icy cold! I had to warm it under the pillow before I put it around my OH lol.
I woke up with a sinus headache that has hovered around all day..horrible!
Going to stock up tomorrow as the farmers are increasing their blockade of the motorways and it will mean shortages along with the port authorities strike . Have just heard that a group of ladies have sent out an sos for donations of blankets, sheets and pillows as the new hospital here have none...or have ones that are ripped to shreds....dear God what is this country coming to?? I know the government have left them short of funds but that is ridiculous!
I will keep the weather updates coming, I think I shall hear more tomorrow so will let you all know. I receive them from several different forecasters but they are usually in agreement with each other. Most of them use the European computer models for the long range forecasts and they are surprisingly accurate. I cannot afford to pay for any forecasts but many of them are generous with sharing them for all to benefit. I appreciate being warned in advance about the very cold spell that will hit Italy and Greece soon, I would rather be prepared for it. One good thing about it is that the extreme cold will bring the dry sunny days like today. I can live with the cold as long as its not damp and cold at the same time. I could feel my face drinking in the sunshine today......but the cats and dogs sunbathing in the middle of the roads were quite an obstacle course! Luckily we missed them all by driving round them as nothing would have shifted them from their patch of sunlight!!!!!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. All being well once I see Marty Wilde in concert this Saturday I should(unless something unexpected happen)have no reason to go out unless I need bread/fresh milk but I have quite a good food store and could use long life or bake some of my own bread.
And the only social outing is on the town so I may still be able to get there...as I am not travelling off town."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Just now I am watching the film Polar Storm on 5+1. It's all earthquakes, polar reversal, electronics getting fried... Not exactly encouraging as I watch the driving rain and the garden being battered... :rotfl:0
