Still heavy horizontal snow, blowing like hell with poor visibility and the main road (A7) just closed. Power still ok so far.BBC said over a foot of snow already in some parts of the Borders. Wheyhey!
we're having bouts with that too now, reminded me a bit of skye and horizontal rain :rotfl:
it's still a tad wet here but if this keeps up overnight (and i daresay the sky tells me it is likely) then i suspect we'll have at least as much snow again as we already have come tomorrow morning
my daughter is out sledging again with her dad. he decided to let her off her lessons early today, i told him just count it as PE
thankfully we've had no flickers of electricity but i've had my storage heaters up higher than normal to keep the house at about 20C vs the normal 17-18C, just in case we do lose the electric due to iced power lines or too many users at once
i also tried the heater in my daughters room again. it had developed a horrible parafin like smell the last time i used it a few years ago, the same type that we'd had at another flat years back and they had to replace it. since we don't really need the heat in the bedrooms (we just open the doors an hour before bed to take the chill off) and prefer sleeping cooler i hadn't worried about it
but it's been like death in there the last week so i thought i'd try it when she wasn't in. turns out it had been turned up all the way and that smell was likely caused by overheating. i left it at midway point and there was a small amount of smell but not even enough to give my sensitive nose a headache
so i've decided that whilst it's this horribly cold i'll have it on the nights before she comes home from her dads, so at least twice a week she'll have her own dedicated heat for her room, should keep it better, it has 2 outside walls and half a wall that is unheated (backs up to the unheated stairs) so it's always the worst.
i don't want her sleeping in there when it's running just in case but i think it will be ok and it's a bit of a blessing with what's likely in store for us.0 -

if you make any cheesy sauces a pinch of mustard powder or even plain yellow american style mustard added to the cheese really brings out the flavour reducing the quantities needed
Thank you for that:)also the advice on the fridge freezer. Lots of snow here and as long as I am here there is a garden too(plus an enclosed passage at the side of the house...which is very cold too)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Said elsewhere my own personal hell to be without the internet having to spend so much time alone at home so I have done this. I hope I did the right thing...

Is this open again? My OH is over there doing some work and I can't see anything about it being closed now or that is was closed earlier..0 -
It's been snowing here since midnight last night. We got up to another four inches on top of what was already here and another 2-3 inches has fallen through the day.
I had to dig a path all down the garden so that the faeries at the bottom of our garden could come for a cuppa. (DD and two granddaughters) The snow was over a foot deep.
All the local schools were closed and the parents knew by 7.30 am so they had plenty of time to sort their children. Twins came here.:)
So I had lots of children here today and Grandma's kitchen was very busy.:rotfl:
I hope you are all safe and warm and have lots of supplies of whiskey, sweeties and cream cakes!:rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
