It's still snowing here in my little patch of the midland's,started about 8ish last night and it's added another 3-4 inch to what we'd got, so my job today is bread making and fighting the cat for me knitting:D

OMG it's deep snow here in the Pennines on the Yorks/Lancs border. It's just monochrome out there - you can't tell where the hillside stops and the sky starts.
No one is going anywhere in this neck of the woods - which in a way is safer than conditions which are 'passable with care'. And it's still snowing. Snow tyres? Find the car first...
I might even get the sled out and try out a mild slope (I am rather elderly :() I bought the sled in the winter of 2010 to bring shopping down the lane from the road so it's not the first time we've had it bad (in UK terms).
Stay safe and warm out there peeps.
This is what prepping is about - not just the collapse of civilisation as we know it.
  • Hi all, snow, snow and more snow! So pleased I made an emergency milk and chocolate run yesterday! Also had a pleasant afternoon perusing the internet for paracord bracelts (was always disapponted I never got one!) and kelly kettles!

Another quiet stay at home day. Hope anyone who has to go out stays safe, and wrap up warm.

I loved Round the Horn, I used to fall about in the kitchen sniggering.
We have a full on blizzard and I'm expecting the elect to go off sometime. Snow started at 5.30 and the wind is starting to gust. Soo glad I went to shops last night and got some

OK...I love Round The Horne Mar. Must listen to them again as I have them all...

OK not the fancy stuff but I have chocolate:)

Thanks for the advice about the fridge/freezer GQ.;)

If the electric stays on(we had more snow overnight/early morning)It's stopped again, I have a kind of stew in the slow cooker(well cooked overnight)now on warm setting for tonights meal/supper.

Later this morning I will have cereal or porridge with fruit. And I am warmer today...it always seems warmer when the snow comes down...that's without the heating on too.

If I can avoid getting stir crazy I plan to stay indoors...I have no real reason for going out...loads of food and drink in, my meds, bills paid up so why should I?

just having a cuppa and then back to learning to spin on a wheel. Lol, I have made enough waste rubbish so far to fill a cushion. Good job I am patient, it always looks easy when the experienced spinners do it. I recommend the spindle though, so incredibly relaxing and can be made from a cd and a dowel or £7 on ebay. Will spin nettle fibres, lol I sometimes see fluffy hair on people and spinning comes to mind. Stay safe on the ice, no broken bones anyone
  • The snow is so thick outside, more fell through the night. I cannot even see mu car! Not going anywhere today I don't think. Quite warm inside though, still in jammies, deciding how to spend my snow day hehe

Good point but I don't think hamsters have sweeties ;)

It snowed overnight so DH got all the snow off dd's car before she set off for work at 7.45. Just about half an hour later it started to snow again and ir is still coming down fast in very small flakes.

I am not going out in this but might have to venture to freezer in garage later for tonight's meal. DH has a "landmark" birthday and is not pleased at being a certain age. I pointed out the alternative scenario i.e not getting older and the implications and it shut him up a bit ;)

Glad we went out for a new coat for dd yesterday as her old one was getting too small and she needs to go out today for medical appointment. Finally found one in T***o that is nice and warm looking, reasonably smart and a good price as well :j

So pleased we have food in cupboards and freezer, long life milk, breadmaker and lots of ingredients. Even better, I have books to read, some recipes I want to try (and some sweeties).

Gas canister for portable heater arrives this morning as previous one is empty so fingers crossed we should be all right.

DH's birthday meal will be things from freezer, home made prawn cocktail, sea bass or salmon with stir fry veg and home made apple crumble for dessert. I might try to bake a cake but I am useless at cakes so hope it is the thought that counts
