Just a thought for anyone putting together a car kit at the moment (it's been mentioned before, but not for a while): a hi-viz waistcoat/jacket. Makes such a difference if you break down or have to walk home, especially with other drivers slithering about. And as a horse rider, I appreciate how helpful they are, whether you're wearing one and riding, or driving and noticing a rider up ahead.

    Hello The Cake

That's a good one! Unfortunately, my coats all tend to be black!

May 'borrow' OH hi-vis vest, as he has a hi-vis jacket too for work....

    Much appreciated all.

Jackets were only about 2.50 from amazon and the first aid kit was a good price too and contains heat blankets. Alsorts of other useful stuff in various pockets and the boot, its as bad as my hand bag which weighs a ton :o

    Siegemode,

Wow, I feel my car prep is v. basic. I will add blanket/snuggie, torch, maps, and make sure the mobile is fully charged.

Thank you very much for this, sorry if this has been asked before, but, it could well be a timely reminder for everyone at the moment....

Luckilly I have enough milk, eggs, bread and stores to keep me in for a good couple of months :D even without fresh stuff we can survive easily.
I'm the same. In fact I have no doubt I could 'survive' for months. But for me, these are the times when obscure cravings surface and you can be sure I will crave the very thing I don't have anything of :rotfl:

Delurking to mention of a small SHTF moment: twice today my electrics have gone off. Thankfully I am all prepped, and knew where the torches were, and had everything safely sorted. Am not even worried if it happens again as I have the lanterns ready, and some candles. As of course, when it happened early this morning, it was still dark!

Anyway, thanks to this and the winter thread, I had it all in hand, with minimum of fuss and stress, when normally I'd probably end up crying at that sort of thing... :D

The Housing Association wants to check the electrics this week and they say it will take up two hours I'll not happy if it affects the fridge freezer and all the food in it. If I keep it closed hopefuly nothing will thaw out! I've too much invested in there to throw it out.

  • It's been snowing here again starting at 9 this morning, and carrying on until at least 5, when I came to my senses and closed the rear thermal lined curtains. ;) The birds and squirrels have appreciated their replenished stocks, and there has been a veritable parade at the sheltered bird hut today. Although Tricky the acrobatic squirrel has decided that it's too slippery to hang upside down by his feet for the fat balls. :D

*If* we get a supermarket delivery tomorrow, I will be the proud owner of 4 new torches, having discovered in a power cut a couple of weeks ago that not all of ours work. I will also have a new and larger slow cooker, and am looking forward to the bung it all in method of batch cooking.

:) Well, several of us neighbours had to deploy a bit of carpet as well as some muscle power when a neighbour's car got jammed on our carpark outside this evening. Jammed because of a visitor's car which had blocked everyone in, btw.

They came back whilst everyone was struggling and it was oh we just thought we were visiting this flat for 3 minutes and ended up staying for 20. No apologies, mark you. And everyone drives out on a snowy Sunday evening to make very brief visits, don't they?!

 Around here 3 minute visits = drug purchases. Barstewards. And my neighbour's car was scratched in the incident. Hope they scratch theirs on their way back to their hovels.

Carpet is a Good Thing. Snow is pretty, don't know how much more we will get overnight or tomorrow but I have been deployed on an emergency mission on my way back from work; SuperGran needs HobN*bs.:rotfl:Good job she has a shopbot who will be walking past the supermarket on her way from work.

ETA siegemode, you'll keep an osteopath in Volvo estates if you regularly carry nearly 4 kg in your handbag. If the SHTF, I wanna be your new best friend, though! Do you have a whistle? Very useful thingies, whistles, for summoning assistance. I have a very loud one on my keyring, along with the mini torch and the mini can-opener.
