Have a couple of boxes of tins in the shed including about 50 of heinz bb that were free with vouchers prior to Dec. No room in house, do you think they will be ok in such low temps ?
I think they should be fine as long as they're dry. Takes a lot to freeze inside a shed, although my lottie spuds did get frost-blasted in Dec 2010 but the shed up there was very exposed. Don't keep them up there any more.
I think the trick with any storage, whether edibles or other consumables, is to keep an eye on it pretty frequently. It also keeps you refreshed as to what you have, avoiding duplication and waste. At least the dadblasted "visitors" won't be in the tins. They are back in my Nan's undersink cupboard which is devoid of all organic materials not encased in glass. They've been chewing on a sponge scourer this time. Foam crumbs everywhere.
Oh, I'm half way thru the second series of the Survivors telly prog from the 1970s. It's pretty good and the writers hadn't shirked from hard subjects. Just watched 2 episodes.
I watched the rise of the sat-nav with utter incredulity. I mean, here we are in a smallish island, comprehensively mapped and roadmarked and what do people do? Use an electronic trinket to direct them about, even unto the point where professional drivers allow themselves to be sent hundreds of miles in the wrong direction. Freaking un-be-leeeevable.
I was raised that if you took yourself somewhere on foot, bike, public transport or by car, you bliddy well knew where you were going and how to get there and back. And an alternate route. It's just a part of being an adult, or even a teen. I'd die of shame if I couldn't find myself from A to B anywhere in the UK. Even without a map, I'd know enough georgraphy to get me into the approximate right region to the point where you'd be seeing your destination on road signs.
2tonsils, I've had problems with maps in Greece before, esp of Crete, where you can get a halfway decent one (but still well below OS standard) if you buy it in the UK but not over there. We don't know how lucky we are with our ordinance survey maps. I've loved a good map since I was a nipper, a habit inculated by Dad, who has OS maps from all over.
I always like to know exactly where I am in relation to where other things are and have been left astonished by some people, for example fellow package tourists who say when asked where they're staying Oh somewhere beginning with "S".
That's gonna be a lot of help if you don't even know the name of the town your hotel is in, sunshine. You're well advised to leave your destination with your next of kin in case of emergency needs to contact you from back home.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Too true - last time we were in Spain, I spent ages hunting for a current issue OS-type map of the area we were staying in, as the boys wanted to go walking in the mountains & I wanted to check routes etc. and my guide book didn't show the autopista which was opened in 2008 IIRC. I eventually tracked some 2010 issues down in a bookshop & had to buy two at vast expense, as we were on the edge of both areas. Got them home & spent half an hour poring over them before I got DS3 to double-check - there were the mountains, there was the N232 - but not a glimmer of autopista on either map!
Ah well, we got everywhere we wanted to go in the end, mostly by guesswork & keeping an eye on where the old road was. Not a fan of satnav, either, having once spent an hour hopelessly lost in Mansfield, where they'd removed all the signposts for some reason, and my friend's DH's satnav was equally clueless...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Hi all
I have a satnav, I find it useful as entertainment for hubby as he spends all his time disagreeing with it & shouting at it! I've recently passed it on to my DD as I no longer drive any distance.
I also have a kindle, I love the feel of a real book, but I'm now at the stage where I can no longer see to read a book unless it has large print, I know these are available from libraries, but my nearest library is too far away to walk to.
I'm watching the program about winter 1963, I was 12, I don't remember any real problems, but lived in central London at the time, so we probably weren't badly affected.

ps just asked hubby what he remembered of 1963, he looked at me askance 'I was 6, I don''t remember anything about it', lol.

omg, avalanche.
1963 I remember it, had lots of flashbacks. Water tanker, burst pipes, walking through deep snow in shoes as we only had one pair of shoes, me and my friends. We all had wet shoes all day in school0 -
This is a very important update....do you remember the other day I mentioned a strange message from Piers Corbyn warning that he saw a huge event happening that would impact the weather in Europe (and other places) within a few days...and impact world weather for years to come?
I am gobsmacked to say the big event has happened....this is the first report on it that have found. The big weather event will be an enormous storm in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. If you go to the last map you can see the projected path takes in Ireland and part of the UK, France, the channel and Spain. This is a genuine report and I am sure that more will come soon. Parts of Europe are going to be impacted with severe storms and huge waves.

^ anything more reliable than a probably news scraper blog (ie one that just 'borrows' over people's content) that's happily reporting the Russian president apparently claiming aliens have landed in Russia, and "a 2nd Sun emerging from previously chemtrailed skies". ? There is no need to be sarcastic about the site...I said it was the first I came across to share...its on the Greek sites and other news sites as well now... You would be better thinking about its effects than criticizing the source... Piers Corbyn predicted this a while ago....a copy of his post is on here from a few days ago when he shared it with everyone.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0
