Hello all
Hope you are all well and surviving the usual Xmas rush?
Thank goodness the EOTWAWKI moment has gone... I didn't really believe it (honest!) but was a tad relieved it's over....
Keep well, warm & dry everyone, & have a good one!

Hi all
Trying to catch up with all the posts I've missed over the last week. RL has been rather inconveniently demanded my attention:D.
Prepping wise i've just been trying to keep on top of my stores to make sure we have an even mix of stuff.
Hope everyone is well and for those celebrating having a blessed Yule.

Can I add a warning that prepping is also about taking care of your finances to the smallest degree! We didn't and the SHTF here! dh got a huge tax bill,:( he is on the paye system so their mistake but we didn't realise until it had mounted up
we had some warning but went to see an accountant and we have to pay (hopefully monthly) but £9,000 is such a lot of money! :eek:Going to keep a closer eye on finances now and belts are being pulled very tightly! Christmas is catered for and much of the food can be frozen away for further meals. We are avoiding going out other than a friends birthday bash, already have his present and card! Phew! Thankfully we had paid off most of our debt so will manage just. Still have the mortgage to pay down so will be squeaking through! I have held back some of the Christmas presents to be given as birthday presents, no one needs so much at Christmas anyway! Thank goodness for a well stocked larder, stash of fabric, card and yarn for crafting further presents and cards and for being brought up by a thrifty Mum! Going to spend the next few weeks reading as many hints as possible from this site.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

local farmers have had/are having an incredibly rough time. eg potato field, still containing potatoes but imagine the stickiest clay so impossible to get them out and crop ruined also probably next years crop. Wheat farmer is seeing his crop for next year is months behind and meantime goodness has been washed out of the soil. Local cattle farmers have to get animals put down as they cannot afford to feed them and that is just the thin end of it. Most farmers are tenant farmers or have huge mortgages and no income. There is no rosy glow for them, it is not like the comfortable picture of the wartime farm, when fields were small and manageable with a couple of horses. Suicides are increasing amongst farmers
I empathize catznine, dh had his yearly pension drawdown in august and he got 1/3 of the expected amount due to a horrible unforseen circumstance, so it`s yet another frugal year ahead and still living off savings
We just came back from farmers shop, we had to buy wellies for dh due to the constant flooded roads around here. They are going into the car together with a pole so he can gauge depth and be safe as we have to travel over christmas. They sell all the necessities like fruit and veg, cheeses, bacon, ciders etc as well as a myriad of farming and diy, cleaning and gardening stuff. So much better than facing the sm. Lane through village was running again yesterday so anxious people around here, the ones that live in old cottages on the lane. Not river water but off fields
I have finished and am doing nothing else bar getting a couple of beds ready. No snow worries here for four weeks, so can rest easy re getting the wood pellets closer to the house. Note that is ONLY here in SW. If I lived elsewhere then I would have the pellets close by from new years day
Am sitting and sipping herb tea. elderflower, yarrow and mint. Tastes lovely and will soothe the head cold that I am getting over, nights are still the worst but it will be over in a day or two. So far this autumn I have had a nasty flu and soon after a head cold, different bugs and I know from the grandchildren as they get a sniffle and I get it compounded
Had a last food delivery today and have got apples etc hanging in os string bags from hooks in a lean to and everything else vac packed or in green bags. Almost all veg is looking a bit sorry for itself due to farmers problems but also have superb sprouts and cabbages on the allotment but will pick any I need at the last minute
I feel very sorry for the people getting stuck trying to get to the airports, much better at home, cosy with wine and chocs and tv0 -
Saw a comment on Faceb**k about preppers 'bet all those preppers are embarrased they didnt buy Christmas present and now find the world didnt end' typical  I also prep gifts and last night found I was one short to deliver today, went to the cupboard and found the perfect simple gift for my niece - who says prepping is daft :rotfl:
I feel sorry for farmers knowing how disappointed I was when my little garden failed this year luckily it isnt my livelyhood just a bonus. Huge farms employ and house lots of people in the scheme of things so what hits the owners hits the workers. As for Prince Charles I dont know the facts but I do know he does a pretty good job in the charity sector, Im by no means a royalist but I do like him and what he tries to do - hope you dont mind my opinion, am not taking anything away from your right to think differently hugs ginnyClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
omg we are in for a lot more amber rain over the next few days and I wish we didn`t have to travel but ds and his oh are flying down so we need to travel to fetch them here, then we all need to travel two ways the next day, then back to the airport the day after. The thought is flipping scary as we have seen the effects after the rain has stopped and it causes deeper and deeper floods for several days. We`ll have a couple of pairs of wellies and sticks in the car but we might have to prepare to stop/turn around but we won`t go through anything too deep whatever
All roads around here were cut off at once, last time around, but it took a week for the last road to close so fingers crossed. One road is through a ford, so that is out already, one is along flat floodplains and it suddenly reaches a point when flood water on both sides covers the unmarked road, this road has very deep ditches on both sides as it is part of the county`s flood control, which also involves tidal waters
The last road has floods on a corner and I noticed today that the `selfish` farmer has cut a drain from his sloping field leading downwards onto that bad corner, grhhh. I say roads but two are single track lanes0 -
Just want to wish you all a very happy Christmas, however you are spending it. Setting off tomorrow morning on our Christmas jaunt..its very cold where we are going but at least its dry....Here its forecast to have heavy rain and force 8 winds from tomorrow night so glad we will be missing it. Hopefully it will still be calm when we get the ferry tomorrow morning! I am not a good sailor....
Do hope the rain clears for you all but the weather forecast looks awful for the UK for the weekend, as does the forecast for most of the USA. Hope you all manage to stay warm , safe , dry and happy over the festive season. xxxx“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
