Despite the end of the world soothsayers, the very pessimistic outlook for Greece, the horrendous prices of bills and food....I feel strangely optimistic today LOL. I have no idea why but I feel very positive. It could be because I have already booked a few days away from the weekend onwards (once everyone gets over the fact they 'survived' the EOTWAWKI....)

Having said that, I am getting most irritated by the people on facebook who live in countries that are in front of us in time and keep posting that nothing happened. Firstly because ''it'' isn't supposed to happen till 11.12 am tomorrow LONDON time....and secondly because they are being very short sighted and selfish to say the least...

There are people in this world right at this moment coping with SHTF situations in their everyday lives...the people in Russia who are suffering from the extreme cold...others starving...and even more desperately ill with no chance of getting the care for them to survive. It annoys me that people only think of their own suffering and not that of anyone else in the world. Indeed, to some nations the rest of the world does not even seem to exist....

Having a bit of a strange time here in Greece. Since early this morning it has felt very earthquakey....it can give you a sudden feeling of light headedness, a bit like when you step off a roundabout and the world spins. It also gives a feeling of nausea and feeling like you were on a bus and it stopped suddenly and you continued to move. My OH mentioned it at lunchtime and had started with it at the same time as me this morning. Have just renewed my earthquake/buildings insurance today so hope nothing will happen. It's not the weather causing it..it was 16 degrees and sunny and clear all day today.

I had a notification from one of the geological warning sites this morning. Apparently Turkey has issued a warning of a strong possibility of an undersea volcano erupting any day now, it is just off the coast of Marmara. It did say that last time it erupted in 1999 , 18,000 people died. Here is the link

Just wanted to post so haven't read today's musings yet, sorry :o

Our local news had some houses under water again after last night's rain. It got me to thinking about all the extra goodies we have in our homes at this time of year & how they could easily be spoiled if 'hidden' under the sideboard or something :( One couple had filled the fridge & freezer just yesterday afternoon, in readiness for the family & grandchildren descending for Christmas Day. Not only is one house spoiled, but the guests will have to scurry around getting in things for a day they were expecting to have catered for them!

Guess I'm saying, it's not only having the stock to keep us going in SHTF situations but also WHERE & HOW they are stored.

Perhaps all this rain is what the prophecy is about; stop building on flood plains, start being better neighbours & you'll be fine.

Well so far reasonably safe around here but you know once I have cleared out everything and assuming I can stay put I could put a lot of my food stores into the inbuilt bedroom wardrobes. And as most of it is tinned stuff it is unlikely to be affected in any way. In the kitchen most items are on shelves in the pantry or in cupboards quite high on the wall.

So what would get spoilt is what is the fridge freezer.

shortest day of the year tomorrow - hopefully, not shorter than usual:rotfl:

Can't wait for longer days - although it has always seemed to me that it takes longer for the days to lengthen in January then it does for them to shorten in June IYSWIM. It's something to do with the difference between perihelion and aphelion but from what I've read it should be t'other way round - we're actually closer to the sun in January. Though I would be the first to admit, if it's not already obvious, that I don't have a clue what I'm talking about
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

The Farming programme on Radio 4 has said that many Farmers are on the poverty line and during these difficult times they often drop paying their house insurance. And recently the authorities/charities that help out by often taking food with them and liase with food banks.

That shows how serious the situation is...

Farmers and poverty line....even in the good times you hear how poor farmers are. Sitting on their land worth more than you and I will see in a lifetime. Kind of like all the baronets and countesses who can't afford to run their country piles.
    Somehow my heart doesn't bleed.

You do see firearms a lot but there are many who do prepping as we do over here. A radio report that I heard a few days ago said that even through all the recent events at schools and public places fewer gun crimes have been happening and fewer people are buying them...just that those who do believe in guns collect more of them so their collections are quite large.
