hi folks - can we steer away from offering suggestions about out of date (or any) meds please? my commentary about how I stock up on my own meds was shot down in flames and subsequently deleted I dont want to risk anyone falling foul of rulebreaking and worse, people getting ill as a result of a suggestion from this thread.
I hope this is taken in the manner which is it meant
likewise, I KNOW we are just passing on sound info which we have gathered ourselves but I think the speculation and variety surrounding medical concerns and medication is too close to rulebreaking and potential harm to 'passersby' and could be deemed inappropriate.
I've messaged a couple of people directly about this, I hope no one takes offence at my suggestion as absolutely none is meantVx

They have a list if suitable stuff which seems quite sensible. It is all quite frightening really I've not seen things like this since I was a child (early 80's and the miner's strikes). Now I would love to help but now having to pay out to fix the car (unexpected bill) I am not in a position to help anyone. I do feel bad. I have most of whats on that list but thats for us whilst we have no wages (temp workers, both of us so no wages over christmas or new year and first wage will be 18th jan). Anyone else having a guilt complex?
not prepping related but certainly feel good, we went to the local RSPCA fundraiser last week and I spent £20 on tomobolas and raffles, which I was happy to spend by way of donation to support them in their fundraising. all the pet food prizes that we won went into the 'christmas day box' for the animals there to get some nice treats on Dec25th and obvs the money I spent went towards the upkeep of the centre, but we also won a lovely dog bed, brand new from pets @t home still with tags and it would have cost £30 if I had bought it myself! So we all won in some way I guess! or that's how I see it anyway. I got back way more than I put in both financially and in emotional terms and I feel everyone benefits. plus princess diva dog loves going back to see her friends there
just donate a little something - it doesnt have to be a whole meal or the entire contents of your stores, but just a little something which could make a huge difference to someone else. If you're really stuck - write up a recipe for pea soup from a tin of mushy peas and stick that in! or write a link out to one of the threads on here xBlah0 -

There have been a couple of posters saying how they donate. Well that is all well and good but I was always brought up to never talk about the charitable donations made, it is always better to keep it secret rather than seeking a public pat on the back. Many many people give without seeking verbal reward. Speaking about what one gives is, tbh, called bragging or in other words `aren`t I a good person`0 -

We are off to the garden centre at the weekend to pick up some pots as DH plans to make one and see how good they are. I will keep you posted.

sorry if i caused any conflict none intended however i've removed the offending portion of my post, alas i cannot remove where it was quoted. i will say in my defense that i put it out there as a sheer dire shtf do this or die sorta thing, NOT for use NOW, if i didn't make that obvious enough then i deeply appoligise. what we do now will of course be vastly different than what we may be forced to do in a very dire shtf scenario.
at any rate, please accept my humble apologies, and i will let it go at that.0 -
I've just spent a happy half an hour on that site and can see much more of interest. Thanks very much for sharing that link.

It's hard isn't it - we're talking about a hypothetical situation that hopefully will never happen, but we have good ideas and want to share them. I know most of us in here mean well xxx0

It is hard. But I'd rather be prepared and not need those preparations. But even if a short power cut, unexpected visitors come along, getting snowed in or whatever I know I'll be ok thanks to the advice I've taken from the people here and the preparations I've made.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I keep seeing scare stories in the press about 'the big freeze' - which keeps getting put back.. Meanwhile I'm stocking up on 'thermals'.
I went to an outdoors shop yesterday and a set of long johns and a vest were £90!. So I took myself to the village army surplus/walking shop and bought one new set for £12 and some fleecy ex army stuff for under a tenner. They have all sorts there and if it begins to look like an ice age cometh I'll be buying up the shop!
Plus seeing as I live in an icy spot with unadopted lanes, I also bought two more pairs of Veriga city trackers.0
