yeah - it really is hard - i hadnt ever considered that my post about meds would be taken as anything other than a stream of thought that might prompt others to apply suitably to their own circumstance - I made it really clear that I wasnt offering medical advice and I made it really clear that it was suitable only for me and my meds and my condition and doses that suited me, but it was deemed not appropriate and I on reflection I agreeBlah0

There have been a couple of posters saying how they donate. Well that is all well and good but I was always brought up to never talk about the charitable donations made, it is always better to keep it secret rather than seeking a public pat on the back. Many many people give without seeking verbal reward. Speaking about what one gives is, tbh, called bragging or in other words `aren`t I a good person`
what I was actually trying to do was help point out that at little to no cost, an offer of support to the charity (that was mentioned by another poster) could be made. to avoid the guilt that the orginal poster was feeling. apologies for any misunderstanding. :beer:Blah0 -

at any rate, please accept my humble apologies, and i will let it go at that.Blah0 -

For many TSHTF, seeing the food bank was mentioned regarding charites/feeling guilty if not able to give...it said on the radio today at a recent drive to try and promote the need for donations of food held in Tesco's the equivelent of 18,000 trolleys of items were collected. That's great but in another way, very sad that it is needed.
I wake up quite positive and for the first few minutes things don't seem to be much different to how life is supposed to be and then you realise once more how difficult it is for so many."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I've just spent a happy half an hour on that site and can see much more of interest. Thanks very much for sharing that link.
It's funny what you come across via Pinterest.
I am going to have another read later.
I have just been looking at the price of bricks in Wickes and B&Q, think I fancy having a go at making a brick Rocket Stove as in my link a bit further up the thread.
It will cost under eight pounds to make a sixteen brick one so not a lot wasted it it doesn't get used much.
We have lots of pine cones around here which are supposed to be good burners, not sure if they stink a lot when burning though.0 -
i read somewhere recently that charities this year are down approx 30 % of donations and its due to everyone being skint. the only thing i have seen was in mr t the other day a trolley asking you to donate a present into it for good causes. i dont know if its just my sons school but they are CONSTANTLY asking for donations we have the weekly school fund which is part of the monday money every week that goes to school , we have the fill smarties tubes up with 20p s for ????????????/ dont know as nothing ever materialises , we have the ballots nearly every month for carp prizes , we have the list is endless, now been told the yearly panto they not supplying the usual 10p drink and ufo never heard of crisps nobody eats BUT they are asking another 2 quid off the kids ontop of the fee for the panto..........i phoned down and the panto is 5 quid cheaper if i bring him down myself also its not for bus hire etc as local company brings them every year free as a gift to the school so thats 5 quid per pupil p1-p7 thats a lot of money. ok rant over!C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

I can see why donations are down. More people are giving the clothes they don't want/need (that isn't good enough for fleabay) to the fabric recyclers for some money back. I should know as I've done it. In my case it was money needed when I wasn't working but I did volunteer for a charity whilst looking for a job. Donations were down for some shops others just got a little less choosy about what they would take and culled their stock less (culled stock in a charity shop go to the fabric recyclers anyway and the CS's are paid for it). But after seeing an artilce in the mail about a woman with 2 kids thats never worked a day in her life and manages to save £250 a month and is buying both her kids £2K worth of presents, I'm a little worked up. I know folk like that are in the minority but they end up giving everyone else a bad name and make a mockery of the ones that work and struggle.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I keep seeing scare stories in the press about 'the big freeze' - which keeps getting put back.. Meanwhile I'm stocking up on 'thermals'.
I went to an outdoors shop yesterday and a set of long johns and a vest were £90!. So I took myself to the village army surplus/walking shop and bought one new set for £12 and some fleecy ex army stuff for under a tenner. They have all sorts there and if it begins to look like an ice age cometh I'll be buying up the shop!
Plus seeing as I live in an icy spot with unadopted lanes, I also bought two more pairs of Veriga city trackers.
Ohhhh....I read that as VIAGRA city trackers......LOL
Yes they put off the Beast from the East big freeze as the other weather system was keeping it off. Unfortunately it has hit Eastern Europe and people have died..some in their own homes...from the extreme cold. Even Northern Greece has thick snow and freezing temperatures. We are a bit warmer but there is a strong wind blowing over the snow and onto us.....it's freezing and I have resorted to my thermals!
Like you I have seen the thermals at laughably ridiculous prices, usually in sports shops as ski wear. The only shops here that come near to Army surplus are the hunting stores and they are only selling clothes in camouflage LOL . I got my thermals from Lidl and they are really good.
Went to buy an electric blanket in town and they were 105 euros for the cheapest!!! Went on Amaz** and got one for 44 pounds delivery included. I ordered it Saturday and it arrived this morning so I am thrilled with that service. The courier was even polite to me when he phoned for exact instructions on how to find me.
We are still having the weather from hell. My friend the storm chaser sent me an email this morning saying he sees no end to it for Greece for the foreseeable future!!!! We closed the shutters last night as the sky was clear and it was near to freezing in the high wind. At 4am there was a simultaneous strike of lightning outside and a boom of thunder that shook the house. We both jumped vertically off the bed as we had been fast asleep... It sounded like a bomb had gone off and I was left with ringing ears for hours afterwards. The noise stopped then we got torrential rain that came down in rivers through the village. Amazingly there was no damage done!
We had three hours of sun this morning and it got to 13 degrees but this afternoon the storm clouds were gathering yet again. We are no doubt going to get more of the same tonight. Since we lost the power the other day, then the water, we decided if the storms were going to continue we may as well buy more stores of lights and stuff for if they do continue to take the power etc off.
So we filled all the water containers on the way to stocking up on storm lamp oil (they were brilliant when we lost the power), night lights, battery operated LED light sticks for the kitchen, lots of batteries and some more emergency fire lighters for wet wood. We actually enjoyed going through the store picking up what we needed for prepping ,while everyone else was buying Christmas things.
It doesn't look like we are going to get to Ionnina for our Christmas treat so we are trying to work out a plan B instead. If this dangerous weather continues we may be safer staying at home. I don't want to get stuck in deep snow and freezing temperatures way up in the mountains in Northern Greece!!Well, not unless its in a 5 star hotel with its own generators, electric blankets and a hot tub LOL:rotfl:“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
The contents of my 'stash' cupboard have fallen out on me! I am going to have to get better organised in the new year. I was going to check the dates but now I will just [STRIKE]nail[/STRIKE]shut the door and sort it in January, no excuses...just bone idleness :rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0
